Why are private schools allowed to have their players on both school and club teams? Glad/not glad my son is on mlsnext team U11 but I think the friendships made on school teams are important.
The other way around it is if you quit the mlsn team and rejoin it after the high school freeze. Now this only works if you are a top baller and they don’t want to lose you, you aren’t in title contention, and there are other kids on the roster willing and able to step up during the time period. Sometimes used by seniors who already have college placement…the u19 back end of the season is a mess unless the team is in title contention: everyone has other things to do so they’ll usually be desperate to get anyone they can back so long as they have enough players during the high school seasonIn theory it is because some students can only afford their private school due to an athletic scholarship, so it would impinge upon their access to education to prevent them from playing. Whether that is actually the case in all instances is another matter.
Wasn't aware there was MLSNext at U11.Why are private schools allowed to have their players on both school and club teams? Glad/not glad my son is on mlsnext team U11 but I think the friendships made on school teams are important.
Not really tracking how young various letter leagues are stretching into (as much as this makes no sense at that age), and might be mislabeled by a club (eg: my son's club had "pre-NPL" for some younger teams, arbitrarily), but it wouldn't be surprised either. There's clearly a demand from parents to have their 10 year olds be recognized as "pre-MLS" players, and are willing to pay money for that meaningless title. Standard market reactions will ensure that if there's enough money in flattering those kids/parents, someone will step in and take it.Wasn't aware there was MLSNext at U11.
I'm pretty sure next year the starting league is still U13. Some clubs have pre MLS next teams that begin by playing in U11. Being on those teams gives you a bit of a leg up (if the coaches like you...parent and player) in getting MLSN when it officially opens, but it's no means assured as that first year draws a lot of talent from other places.Wasn't aware there was MLSNext at U11.
