On May 28, Bessent described the new Federal Reserve under chairman Kevin Warsh, said the Treasury Secretary and Fed chair now share weekly meals (”a home game and an away game”), floated a $250 bill carrying Trump’s face explained through seigniorage (currency as an interest-free loan to the government), and pitched the new Trump accounts that seed $1,000 of index funds into every child born during the term.

That article starts with salt, because money at its foundation is whatever a society cannot live without. Whoever controls that controls the people. Salt, then gold, then paper, then digits. Each version more abstract, more dependent on trust, more vulnerable to the people who run the institutions.

Yet votes cast by mail are less likely to be counted, more likely to be compromised and more likely to be contested than those cast in a voting booth, statistics show. Election officials reject almost 2 percent of ballots cast by mail, double the rate for in-person voting.
“The more people you force to vote by mail,” Mr. Sancho said, “the more invalid ballots you will generate.”

“You could steal some absentee ballots or stuff a ballot box or bribe an election administrator or fiddle with an electronic voting machine,” she said. That explains, she said, “why all the evidence of stolen elections involves absentee ballots and the like.”
