Albion SC (East County specifically)

We'll see what comes. I had the chance to catch an EA2 match the other day; they seem heads and shoulders above not only B12 EA, but B11 EA/EA2 as well...
B11 EA2 apparently imploded and the roster is currently a mix of 2012 and 2011 boys thrown together from across CV/EC/SD so Albion doesn’t have to forfeit games. They don’t train together at all, just come together on game day and are coached by whoever is available among the EA and MLSN staff.

Good exposure for the boys to the coaches and to the increased speed of play, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them a “team.”

Well, SN seems to have put in a good word for many of his F2/3 players as he headed out the door--several U14 have already been rostered EA/EA2 and a handful of U15s appear to be on EA/EA2 trial. Somehow I doubt MM did similarly.
Sami always seemed to be the real deal.
You can always find someone to say something bad about someone, but never heard it about him.
A shame he had to move to Oceanside . Albion lost a good one.

(Based on the three clubs in three years, seems Mike is quite the opposite)

Yup; SN is/was by far the best coach my kid has had the chance to interact with at Albion. (Although, to be fair, my boy isn't MLSN, so perhaps it's better at the top---RM made a great impression this weekend.)

Wonder who they'll have out for the U15 age training; I know they didn't even bother to invite the Academy kids from Robb.

Interesting. Thought it was a u15 invite for everyone.

Did your son get the chance to play for the MLSN team this weekend?

You would think, but the announcement definitely did not go out to all teams with U15 players. I don't think either of the B11 EA/EA2 squads received it; those players only learned of it via word of mouth.

No, my son guested for the B11EA2 hodgepodge squad mentioned above, which had an MLSN coach covering one of this weekend's games.

Odd that they wouldn't want to maximize the player pool for the higher level teams. (Maybe want to ensure they have a team below EA2?)

Did a coach not get assigned to the 11ea2 team?
Just whoever happens to be at the fields?

I don't know if they've decided on a coach for the U16EA2 squad next year--or, indeed, if they'll even have one and/or an Academy team at that level. (Last season they sent the B11 EA2 slot to CV where it imploded, and did not field Academy at Robb).

For the Spring season, they're just sending out whichever coach has a free slot that day. As mentioned above, the gameday rosters are currently whichever guests are available.

Looks like a case of too many "elite" teams and not enough players or coaches. Don't be surprised if they mash players into levels that are not appropriate just to fill a team. The 1st and 2nd teams at every age group are all that matter. The rest are just filler.

Best of luck to those deserving of a move up!

Wonder if the MLS HG and MLS AD were even notified. Hard to evaluate players in a one-off session. Most big clubs held 1-2 full weeks of age group sessions.

Looking at standings seems some (a lot?) of EA2 kids should be on at a minimum EA if not AD.
Maybe the club will make it right, maybe they won’t.

Seems they brought out the AD boys after all. Still hard to believe they could do much assessing based on ~45 minutes of play.
Rosters are essentially set and it was an exercise to evaluate a handful of players for HG/AD. Majority of EA2 going to EA and majority of EA going to EA2 or down to U14 age group.

Makes a lot of sense (except that AFAIK all the boys there were U15). I'm mostly curious how they slot the B11s into the mix, especially since AN wasn't even there to speak for his players.

Most of the B12 EA team fall into the younger group. Only a few bump up to U15.

B11’s continue to be rudderless and weren’t even evaluated tonight. No wonder they never got the invite, probably weren’t supposed to be there.

That sounds like the Albion to which I'm accustomed. Curious why you say they were not evaluated, though; my understanding is they blended the B11 and B12 EA boys into two separate squads and at least one of them faced the EA2 team for a while--although clearly the EA2/MLSN match(es) were the main attraction.

I'm pretty sure the club was clear that all players would be evaluated for HG placement first. Hard to evaluate B11's for HG without the other B11 teams present. And they are way out of their depth in their current league, perhaps a step down to Academy would be more appropriate.

As you said, the intent was to thoroughly review the B12 AD and EA2 teams. AM knows his rosters for next season, although the B12 EA have certainly gained momentum under his coaching. Maybe AN can do the same with the B11's in the short time he has left, but he's currently not slotted to be over any U15's next season.

Agreed on HG, but my sense is almost none of the kids out there yesterday are in that discussion; AD seems more likely.

I guess I am puzzled how AM can possibly know his U15 rosters: sure, he's likely sorted his existing B12 EA/EA2 kids, but there are a ton of U15s currently rostered on the B11 EA squad, as well as some scattered across various Academy squads that presumably deserve a sniff at the EA2 roster before they move to open tryouts. AFAIK this was the first time AM has laid eyes on most of the B11s currently under AN's care.

The existing coaches view matters more than any one-off training.

Was talking to an ECNL coach the other day and he admitted tryouts are a sham.

Pretty sure a combo B12 EA2/EA team handily dismantled the B11 EA in a scrimmage a few weeks back. AM had a good look at the squad then.

Any sense how much movement the mls rosters will have?
Does the AD have a lot of youngers?

HG seems
Solid and with no age change wonder if much movement happens.
I know at least 2 B11 AD's possibly dropping to B12 AD. One B11 who came out of an MLS Academy (involuntarily) that has been filling in on any team they can until they can get moved to B11 HG or B12 AD.

The B12 HG has a couple bio-banded B11's playing down and a couple B13's playing up. U15 is the age when the HG players who are good enough start trialing with MLS academies so there could be movement there from AD. As for B12 AD, I'd guess 2-3 from the EA2 squad move, none from the B12 or B11 EA.

This of course is not considering the outside players who've been lurking around Albion for a shot at the HG or AD teams recently.
