Transfer Portal - May 1

Seeing all these kids and posts on social about kids going into the portal, 2025’s coming in already signed with athletic money, most schools capping at 28. News today about a possible grandfather rule for rosters, but who knows….

It’s a game of musical chairs for these kids. These late portal entrants…are there going to be spots? Seems unlikely so many will be able to go D1 to D1 this late in the game. Crazy, crazy times…my 2025 is committed and picked a school where she has a great opportunity to play early…school had her major, she did not chase a sweatshirt. School kept the rosters in check. We feel very blessed and fortunate. I am already hearing stories of kids getting cut from friends with kids at different schools. It’s not a good thing. I guess I would say this for the ‘26 group, either pick a school you would without soccer for the academics, or pick a school where you can play if that is important…many kids from sweatshirt schools transferring and hitting the portal.

Rosters rules are still not settled…they should have pushed this to next year…some schools (smaller mid-majors) were smart and deferred until 2026…in other cases for the P4 it’s a way to pay the FB and BB players directly and keep their teams competitive. Except for Baylor BB, their whole team hit the portal 😳

Good question. I noticed ASU has a whopping 14 players on his spring roster. Don't know what he has coming in but it sure seems like he lost players since the season ended. I don't imagine getting transfers will be a problem for him but the next 10-12 days is going to be interesting.

Agree with you that doing it this year was bullshit.

I went and took a look at the ASU roster. Fifteen players gone. Looks like 6 termed out and 9 left. Those that left most did not play in 24. This is gonna be crazy.

I don't know what's going on in Tempe. He was probably close to losing his job, committed to the Euro route, managed to get an extension and now there's room for a dozen players. I can't imagine his recruiting class is that large. We know one of the players that left but haven't wanted to ask because, to your point, she never played.

Looks like Oregon has a fresh batch of 4 portal entrants as well. New coach comes in and the players start resetting.

With ASU and others still adjusting there will be some spots available in and around the Northwest and Southwest region.

What are you using for a portal source? I've seen what's probably incomplete information on the unofficial threads I'm aware of.

I saw the self reported list posted on Instagram @Imyouthsoccer. It's informal but accurate as kids DM them to get the word out publicly.

Horror story update: I promised not to mention the coach (just hired the jerk) or the D1 school. Anyway, 4th year player (excellent grades, student loves her school and a better human) was told to transfer if she wants to play her last year because new coach is going with his players. She started a few games last year and was looking to graduate on time and wanted to finish her year out on a high note, but this asshat has made it very sour. I would have told her, "Work hard and I will play the best 18." He brought his favorites (can you say, "transfer with me.") One player he brought is a big-time college hopper and has no loyalty to the school. I mean, you can't make this shit up.

Reading on X, half the kids in the portal won’t find D1 Homes…some won’t want to “lower” their level to D2 or D3…reading that the kids that don’t find homes will likely quit based on last year’s info. Crazy, crazy…

Why not name the school?

Bro, have you lost your mind? You can't post political satire on these threads, forum rules 101. Take it to the kitchen or I will snitch on you. Happy Friday to everyone who has a child in the portal. I do have good news to report: My pal's kid is super happy to escape the yeller that almost had her quit altogether. She is going to a new school and will get her degree and play the game she loves with a great coach.

My sincere apologies for posts that were meant for the kitchen.
Way to eat crow bro. I forgive you 100% I've been there and done it myself in the past on the Socal's fabulous soccer forum. I got lit up by the powerful elites that tried to run this place back in the day with their lies and misdeeds. Now they gone and just lurk. I think the transfer portal is good and bad, just depends on what side of the transfer the player is.
