How’s the 2024-2025 season going?

How about we talk about Tryout Week for ECNL!!! Or... the formality of ECNL tryouts so the clubs can officially say they held tryouts:)

It's a real tryout. Just not for the top team.

If a unicorn went to a big tryout, the club would find the parents and get the kid sorted to the right spot. It just rarely happens, since most kids aren't unicorns, and most unicorns no longer go to tryouts.

100%, More like tryouts for RL, and RL2.

Not a loaded question but does anyone believe there is a glass ceiling for top RL players to get to a legit NL team?
Facing that situation with my daughter.
Absolutely there is. It’s like any job that you want to have a supervisor role in, you have to apply outside to be considered as a legitimate candidate because clubs don’t promote from within. But that being said, I know of 4 clubs who have promoted from the RL team to NL from the 2010 age group from within the same club (2 from Sporting, 3 from Slammers FC, 2 from Legends, 1 from Blues). Everyone else who made the jump had to switch clubs.

Clubs have a financial incentive to bring on a player from the outside if there's an equivalent player they can bring up from within. Also often coaches get bonuses for bringing on new players to the club.

The odds are stacked against 2nd team players from working their way up to the top team. However if you're looking to get noticed to get recruited for a top team it's much easier to shine on 2nd team.

This is why people reccommend going to all the different club tryouts + make connections in other clubs. Maybe your current club isn't interested but others might be. Also you can leverage a first team offer at another club to a first team spot on your current club.

Imo unless the team manager or coach invited you personally chances are you are not going to be noticed or be reached out too. 1) there's way to many bodies for coach to do a real observation. 2) your trying out with a bunch of non ecnl players. So opening up, passes, movement, awareness
May put you in bad situations and make you look bad bc of the players around you....

No glass ceiling. Our NL team has a couple players who used to be RL. We also play against NL teams who recruited from our RL team. So it happens.

That said, it’s not easy. Even if she has the skills, she might have to accept a lower status club in order to make the jump.

Got it. Wanted to make sure we are talking the same team. Unless all the girls hate each other and are ready to quit soccer, going from the cellar winning just 1 game in 23 only 2 years ago to 5th place with only 3 games left as of today to me says someone’s doing something right. Looks like they are 1-1-2 in league since the break with 3 to play. Will see how they finish. I agree team chemistry is super important but if adding players throughout the year ruins chemistry then there isn’t a single team in this league with chemistry. Player movement at any time should be expected at the ecnl level. It is a tough pill for parents to swallow though.
Not convinced with MM’s coaching. Got whooped again today and will most likely get the same against Legends. Supposedly added more talent but doing worst. They’ll be lucky to get the 8th spot IMO.

Do you have a kid on this team? Seems like you have an axe to grind with Mr. MM. Kid cut? Not offered a spot next year? There were 6 2010 games this weekend. I know some of this game yesterday and I wouldn't say they where "whooped". It was 1-0 at half and Surf scored off a corner in the last minute of the first half. Eventually a defense is going to take chances if their offense can not get it done and perhaps that was what was going on here? Formation changes in the second half? Maybe it was MM? Don't know. Lets review some stats on what I can find though. Since the break Surf had played 6 league games. They have scored 33 goals and given up 1 and that was by Koge. I would say this team is a bit dialed in at the moment. They beat Slammers 6-0 and some would say Slammers have been on a roll since the break as that was their only loss in league since the break. I understand that Pats yes have added some pieces since the break but they are obviously still missing something. Looking at the stats again its painfully obvious they need scoring. They have not scored in their last 3 league games and their showcase was more of the same. It is a bit of a head scratcher since the break as they ended the first half of league only loosing to Koge 1-0 in a very well played game (game is on veo live on Koges page for anyone to view). It does seem like they are in a collision course with a low playoff seed but if they do make it in and they do figure out their scoring issues I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of clubs out there hoping they do not draw them in their group. Seems like a good opportunity in being in the tryout window for some hungry offensive girls to come out and turn the team around. I wonder if some of those Slammers RL girls that have been tearing it up were out there?

Looks like you have Pats tying sharks so if that’s the case they shouldn’t go. I have them winning that game and tying eagles and taking the head to head tie breaker for the 8th spot. Going to be a wild ride for all!!!

Honestly, if pats can get their midfield transition and final 3rd dialed in, I have them winning that game. I like the team and what their potential is. However, I’ve also heard good things about Legends SD #15 which gives them a punchers chance against pats.

lol, no I don’t have a DD on the team. Just spewing my opinion from previous pattern and what I’m hearing from parents on the team. Ok, not “whooped” but I guess beating? You missed to mention the 5-1 “beating” by Beach just a couple of weeks ago. Pats are in such a bad form that team would want to play them lol.

well don't understand the need for hate but it is an open forum so spew away. Personally in being in the scene and being from OC I would like to see all the OC teams succeed. Outside of OC then no!!! There's 8 playoff spots and 4 OC ECNL Programs so they all need to go! I can say programs don't get built unless talent takes a chance on them.

I didn’t know that my disagreement of MM’s coaching style translated to hate (I don’t hate him). I think his coaching should be questioned, that’s all :)
