Greatest male singers of all time

John Doe
Joey Ramone
Joe Strummer
Iggy Pop
Bob Mould

If Bono 🤮 and Geddy Lee 😱can be on the list, so can these chaps. Seriously though, Mike Patton probably needs to be on the list. 6 octave range (2 better than Mercury) and perfect pitch.

Duuuuude.....2112....I listened to it two more times today after this discussion. No love for Geddy. Early U2 was amazing stuff.

That's a good list though. Just had to go back and listen to The Passenger and Bang Bang. Iggy was the best.

First off, I'm probably the last person anyone should listen to for greatest singers. I'm probably tone deaf.

I've never been able to get my ears around Prog Rock. I don't doubt that Rush has great musicians but it just sounds too clinical to me.

I wasn't a huge Iggy/Stooges fan, but I saw Iggy at a festival this past summer. He shuffled out on stage bent over at the hip, shirtless with his skin literally hanging of his bones. I thought "oh crap, this is going to be bad". Then he just preceded to rip it. He sounded amazing.

Wow... you picked the one guy worse than Joey Ramone... John Doe. I'm starting a Worst Male Singers thread if you're gonna stoop this low.

I suppose Lee is an acquired taste, but 2112 was one of the best albums ever made -- I think if Plant is on the list, so is Lee. Ozzy from Black Sabbath to solo stuff was amazing. Roth was friggin legit. Maybe Morrison comes off the list -- I think I like the influence he had more than anything else.

I'll give you Joey Ramone, but John Doe has a great voice. Listen to his solo stuff which is just OK musically but showcases his voice.

1. Chris Cornell
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Scott Wieland
4, Jeff Buckley
Good call on Scott Weiland. Dude had such range in terms of the style he'd sing. I'd hear all these cool songs, and I'm pretty much an 80's rocker, but never know it was him until much later. Almost like he sounded different in each one.

I'm mostly into rock, but I thinks Willie Nelson is a great singer.

As far as front men go, they don't get any better than Angelo Moore. Fishbone is red hot!

Layne Staley from Alice in Chains comes up on my short list for his voice/range.
He kills it here, all while high on heroin. Not glorifying it by an means. Just facts.
For me, any singer who can rip acoustically shows their real talent. No auto-tune or
anything else to mask or make up for any shortcomings. Same for Scott Weiland from STP/Velvet Revolver.
Heroin took both those guys way too soon.
(Heroin didn't take Chris Cornell or Kurt Cobain..but two other great ones gone way too soon.)

Aaron Lewis is another. Here's a great acoustic song by him. He's got a lot of acoustic guitar only songs like this.
Wanna put a smile on your wife's face...play this for her.

Then you have people like Mick Jagger, Elton John, Steven Tyler, etc. Guys like that with longevity who
can still go out and perform after all these years. Took my daughter to see The Rolling Stones last year
at Sofi Stadium. Those dudes are old..but they still killed it.
Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt by NIN is epic. You either like him or you don't.

We could spend all day here covering so many different great artists and their songs.
