EC Surf ~~~~~~>>>> Rebels

Strong rumors that Rebels will take over EC Surf
Has anyone heard anything?

Would be a huge amount of teams.
A lot of talent left EC Surf over the last year once Rebels got ECNL on the boys side.

Having Jason messing things up since the switch from Liverpool certainly hasn't helped things the last few years.

Does this mean EC surf will also implement the age change 1 year early like the rebels instead of waiting on SoCal to implement it for 26 season?

I wonder if they will operate as a separate entity or fully integrated.

Would be nice to have some ENCL/ECRL in East County and not have to travel as far for trainings.

Problem is lack of quality fields in East County.
Grossmont High is used by Sporting California now.
There is always Seau.

WIth Jason Aldous being hired by Albion maybe they will get to use Grossmont College.

With Surf losing a few affiliates lately, are they abandoning their "jersey selling" program or are the affiliates just realizing that the only thing they're getting are jerseys?

Is Surf losing power and influence since they don't have MLS Next on the boys side (girls are still outstanding)? The Surf Cup is nothing like what it used to be.

They won't move their ECNL teams from their Hub in Chula Vista. Never going to happen. One of two things will happen.
1-EC Surf changes names to Rebels EC, and everyone has to buy new uniforms. Nothing else will change, same fields, coaches, players, teams etc..
2-Rebels brings each EC Surf team into the Rebels orginization. The EC Surf teams will become the 4th, 5th, 6th teams for each age group.
Most likely option 1 is what will happen.

Jason coaches the Grossmont womens team, so I doubt EC Surf Rebels will be taking that field.

From their webpage: "The merger means that we have become one club named Rebels San Diego. This means that the player pool and geography of the Club has grown. All players will have a pathway starting from the Junior Academy through 7v7 and 9v9 to the ECNL, ECRL, Elite 64, ECRL So-Cal, NPL and Socal Soccer League. The merger will enhance administrative resources, coaching development and college placement programs."

Do we know how this might affect EC surf fees? They are/were one of the cheapest but if I had to guess I assume Rebels is not that.

Also curious if they move any teams one way or the other.

Kind of reminds be of when when Blues tried to make a splash in North County Coastal SD.

I think it is more likely the coaches reaching out to clubs to play under someones umbrella instead of joining with a local club. They were Blues, then FCGS, now Rebels, could be Legends, Sporting, or Surf next season 😉. I guess Mindes is doing everything they can to avoid City🤷; must be some bad blood up there.

I can't understand why people still buy into this. People this is the "Phishing Scam of youth soccer"..

Nobody is moving any teams anywhere. Peoples jerseys are going to be different, and insurance coverage is under a different orginization, that is it. Rebels gets kickbacks on Uniform sales; East County pays less fees to Rebels, than Surf.
The only orginization I have ever seen try to move teams during an aquisition is Sporting USA California this last/current season. Look up that thread to see how that went. 😵‍💫. I won't be the least bit surprised if Sporting USA California didn't end up getting itself removed from ECNL next season due to the ingnorance and failure of that plan.

If sporting were to be removed which club would get preference for replacement?

Is it a club in OC, riverside or SD?
CitySC is a logical choice. They're a top GA club with 2x GA teams per age group, centrally located between OC and SD, and they have satellite locations in Temecula.

From a girls ECNL perspective with City you'd have 99% of the top clubs in Socal playing in their league and you'd be taking away one of GAs top clubs.

From a GA perspective you don't want to lose City so they're giving them whatever they want. Preferential seeding, second GA teams, additional talent id spots, etc.
