Docs: NCAA considering applying football redshirt rule to athletes in all sports
The NCAA is considering more historic changes to its amateurism rules.
1. All sports can redshirt like in football. This will give players 5 years of eligibility.
2. National letter of intent will be scrapped. This will allow recruits to change schools up until the last minute.
3. Players can get paid exceeding the expenses to play. This was most dramatically highlighted by tennis players that would win $$$ in off season tournaments and have to choose between accepting the $$$ and maintaining eligibility.
4. Agents potential roles are being expanded beyond NIL only.
Of all the changes #3 has the most potential to dramatically change college sports to its core. For soccer players if I'm reading this right you could play for a pro team + get paid. Then if you were cut you could go back to playing in college (for 5 years of eligibility)
Brave new world...
