ECNL Club performance requirement

Are club performance requirements just an urban legend in ECNL or do they really exist in order to keep the "Elite" status?
If so, what are these these requirement?
There are clubs that have had no competitive teams since the buffaloes roamed free in the prairies, and yet they are still "Elite".

I've heard of verbal "probation" saying get your sh!t together or your out next season.

I've also seen ECNL force 2 non performing clubs to merge. This is a smart way to handle getting rid of bottom feeders. Usually 2 terrible clubs can make 1 decent club. Also if ECNL dropped a non performer other leagues likely won't pick them up which would be a death sentence for the club.

Eh I don't know about that. If ECNL dropped a club in SoCal I'd bet dollars to donuts that GA would be more than happy to pick them up.

Maybe, depends on the club.

ECNL told Sharks improve or you're out. That's why Shannon hired MW from Albion (at the time) to run their girls program.

Also, before that Surf (I'm sure with ECNLs blessing) tried to buy Sharks out. Sharks leadership put it up to a vote by the parents and parents turned it down. Being fair I don't think Surfs offer was a merger. More likely they wanted Sharks to become "Surf DMCV" or Surfs Rec program

If you go back to the DA days many of the current big ECNL and big GA socal clubs played against each other in league.

ECNL begged Sharks to join ECNL when they "kicked" out Surf in 2018.

Ok, let me rephrase the question, then: has a club ever been kicked out from ECNL officially for lack of performance?

Not in SW conference since DA's demise. If there were to be candidates for relegation I think it would either be Sporting Arsenal (all teams 7th place or worse out of 9, doesn't cover a specific geography with it being next door to Legends) or Heat (everyone in SW would be happy to do away with one less trip to Vegas).

Yes, Las Vegas Premier were booted out for poor performance. Strikers were just about to when DA happened, which granted them a stay of execution.....the rest is history shall we say.

Wasn't SC Del Sol in the ECNL a few years ago? I seem to remember them being an ECNL club awhile back.

How poor was their poor performance? Are we talking multiple years of not making playoffs at any level? I am just trying to understand if there is a benchmark..

Yes, they were ECNL, and jumped ship for DA. I think they burned some bridges, and are "stuck" with GA.
Strikers burned that bridge to because they wouldn't obey and bring their top boys program. I know folks on here talk smack about the Strikers but consider this: They did not get the invite to the GDA and had their whole teams poached in swoop. They were "loyal" when others jumped ship. However, the bosses said to get your top boys team over here or else. Who gets stuck in the middle of this shit? That's right, the parents and girls. So sad!!!

Poor, multiple teams conceding over 100 goals, across multiple ages and years. I seem to remember something about there being a 3 year window if your club had won a National Title, but don't quote me on it.

Now though, with so many leagues/clubs etc, I doubt you see too many with real promotion/relegation etc as its just become a land grab of collecting clubs in certain geographic areas to fill out brackets.

The narrative around Strikers getting kicked out of ECNL has always centered on their boy's program choosing MLS Next. But since that decision was made numerous posters have pointed out other girls ECNL clubs whose boy's programs aren't in ECNL either. If you remember the Striker's girls ECNL program was a mishmash of teams. Some were based at the OC Great Park others were up in Fontana. Is it possible Striker's got kicked out of ECNL because they were disorganized and dysfunctional as a club?

That would make them equal to many clubs with that example. There are no performance requirements. I can tell you 100% they would have been granted a stay of execution if they brought the boys, trust me. We're talking the boys being forced to play in a girl only league at the time. ECNL went to boys for obvious reasons when ECNL was kicked to the curb by GDA and ECNL needed to desperately make new money from the revenue losses to the GDA. It was stupid idea for ECNL to go boys, MOO. Strikers is big time MLS and the boys are very good players, and their parents would never make that switch. It was an either-or choice before them. Either you bring your top boys' team over or your disorganized girl's program would be dropped like a hot potato. They begged and tried to reason. My dd had just finished out so this didn't affect her like it did one of her friends who was a 2005 player and looking to sign her Senior year. That whole team of girls and their parents were left high and dry. The ECNL team was mostly OC and a few IE and LA players. We beat the #1 team at the time LAFC and that was a fun match to watch.

Sc Del Sol were one of the founding GDA clubs in the 2017/2018 season and were ECNL in 2016/2017.

Here's a link that will blow your mind.

If NWSL could have created NWSL Next at the time like MLS did with MLS Next in 2020 the entire girls youth soccer landscape would be a different place. The problem with DA/GDA is that the carrot at the end of the stick was USMNT and USWNT. The net was too wide (and expensive to maintain) for essentially 2 teams.

MLS Next works because there are 20 potential pro teams and 1 USMNT team players in the system can end up on.

This is why people are watching what happens with NWSL so closely. The template for how to successfully (depending on your definition of success) funnel talent into pro and US National teams us defined on the boys/mens side. MLS benefits and USMNT benefits. NWSL is likely working with US Soccer to do the same for women. Setting themselves and the USWNT as the beneficiaries.
