Pateadores Girls DA 03/04 - Observations

[QUOTE="Still long odds.

In general club soccer population, yes. 90% of the kids playing soccer at that bottom tier should be playing AYSO and just having fun but someone figured out how to make a buck. But, for the other 10% there is a 1 in 333 chance they can get a NSWL contract; and, that number is skewed because probably 80% of the girls won't even want a chance at playing NSWL; therefore, it is a 1 in 66. LOL. The whole pyramid scheme taking a general population of soccer players is skewed. A flight 3 player at age 18 should not be considered in these statistics. :)[/QUOTE]

Take all of the graduating D1 players and the odds are still stacked against it. Take all of the graduating players with some sort of all conference award. Still long odds.

Article is incorrect since we are talking a 1.5M player pool across 15 years of players. College is 4 years (not 15) and is 9.4% chance, D1 2.25% chance, NSWL 0.04% chance (using the methodology of the pyramid corrected for 1 graduating year of college; although, that is statistically incorrect method), and NSWL contract 0.03%.

So are you saying the odds are pretty good?

Next open tryout for the 03/04 Academy I and II teams will be Sunday, January 29th from 1pm to 2:30pm at Laguna Hills HS.

I am sure Pats will put this on their website soon, but since we attended the prior tryouts, I am receiving these emails, so I thought I would share.
Any updates from Pats da tryouts last night? Any new information to share?

There is not much new info to share from last night's training session (which was invitation only). NP stated that the Academy II League will happen for 2017/2018. He stated 9 programs have agreed to join the Academy II league (not new info). He also confirmed the AZ team in the SW Conference will not be a part of the Academy II league.

He said that two unnamed ECNL teams in So Cal are considering dropping ECNL to focus exclusively on GDA. Curious who those programs are?

He also confirmed that Pats will have an 03 and 04 Academy I team along with an 03 and 04 Academy II team for 2017. Both Academy I teams will be fully funded.

The Academy I players cannot play HS soccer, but the Academy II players can play HS soccer. The Academy II teams will go "dark" during the HS season.

The next open tryout is January 29th at Laguna Hills HS.

Last thing I remember from last night was NP stating that the Academy II teams would be close to fully formed a couple of weeks after the 29th open tryout. The Academy I teams will not be finalized until later, which I think is code for......"we want a lot of ECNL players for our Academy I teams and those players will wait until the ECNL season is over before choosing".

Thank you for the updates. Greatly appreciated.

Gulp....I wonder which 2? Maybe 2 clubs that realize they can't field 2 top teams with 30-35 studs?

Wow, that would be quite a blow to the Southwest Conference. If the ECNL goes from 8 Southern CA clubs to only 6, I have to think that would hurt their long term future as a viable league.

So from what you understand will the 9 DA-II teams just simply play each other in their own league?

You mean DA-II will be the new ECNL. If the next level players go DA-II, ECNL will be dead.
Just guessing here, Clubs with both DA and ECNL would not have DA-II teams I'm assuming. Also, looking at strictly cost and coaching need the two clubs that may end ECNL could be Blues and who else?? Galaxy? I don't see Slammers with 4 million affiliates nor West Coast.

I think it would have to Slammers and/or West Coast. They need all of those teams to offer a fully funded or reduced cost DA program. Blues (while a great club) would have a hard time financing those teams.
How many clubs with DA also have High School coaches on the roster?

So should we assume that besides Arsenal & Strikers, the majority of top Ecnl players will be the new Da, Egsl & lower level Ecnl players will be the new Da-II, and the 3rd team players will be the new Ecnl? I think Ecnl is getting the raw end of this. Better coaching, more development, and more opportunities playing Da-II rather than Ecnl? Ecnl coaches next season for the most part are the egsl coaches this season. :( To think that any club has 45 studs to field 3 top teams is super crazy and doesn't exist anywhere. Da will be super competitive next season, Da-II will be competitive based on scdsl results this season, and Ecnl will be the least competitive with Arsenal and Strikers beating everyone by large numbers. I personally think clubs should have Da OR ecnl, based on the amount of Da clubs, there is not enough talent to go around. It sure will be interesting to see how this all plays out and who ends up having the stronger league.

So from what you understand will the 9 DA-II teams just simply play each other in their own league?

From what I understand, the DA Academy II league will not be a part of CSL, Presidio, SCDSL, etc. It will be a new league that serves only the DA II teams. There are only 9 teams at this point that have said "yes" to the new league, but they could add others as there are 13 total GDA teams in the SW Division.

There will be some clubs that have both GDA and ECNL and will participate in the DA II league. As to which clubs, we will see soon.
