G2010...How is the 2021 season going?

It's silly. Bracket A teams have won all of their games. Bracket B have lost all of their games. But the finals will be #1A and #1B. So this weekend, either someone in B wins a game and advances to the finals or someone in B does not get completely killed and makes it to the finals. I guess lucky for Ole/South Valley, they'll know going how many goals they need to advance.

Ole or Slammers Cruz will get the free pass in bracket B. So if it’s Ole then they can’t argue that their 2011 team was done wrong. It’s not only about wins, it’s about getting shut outs and scoring goals with a cap of 4 goal differential points per game. And 1 point for every shut out. You can’t argue that the Blues teams sitting in the top position of their brackets have not done their job in getting those extra points.

I don’t comment on games we should have won. Give great credit to two things. Great game coaching by the Albian Coach, and ok, I will add that Surf’s coach has decided to make this a better team, not based on the score of games today, but by their style of play and control of games. Ask me at the end of the league spring season how they are playing. That’s not too long from now.

Pass from the back takes time for youngers and even the best players will make mistakes going from side to side and back some more and moving the ball around like Hoosiers. Its the best and safest way to play the game for the girls.

Luis, did you do this? Nice job! It was a great game and boy are you right, the speed of play was so intense, that it helped us realize that we need to get better under that kind of pressure.

Boy are you right about that. It is actually pretty easy until you run into high pressure and then parents start asking why we are playing that way. Becoming a mature team takes time, and it doesn’t happen overnight. You are going to lose a few games along the way, but for the end result of winning the last game of the year, which is usually a national championship.
 
I have to agree and I am very impressed by the Surf team. They might not be ranked #1 now or even at the end of the spring league but I think they will be the top team in the coming years. They are well-coached and have the talent and athletes needed to be the best.

I must admit I was one of those parents because I like to win. Boy was I 100% wrong. Players were taken out of game if they were ball hogs or tried to do circus acts like dribble & Juggle through 6 players. That is not soccer, MOO. Good luck bro :)

Those rankings are still in flux for the NorCal teams. No one has that many games just yet, so a couple of blowouts can send things crazy.

Woodside (#5 in your list) is good, but not #1 in norcal. They tied the MVLA B team on Saturday.

I'd put San Juan in the top group before Woodside.

Are those the got soccer points, or something else?

I find it hard to take points systems too seriously. Most of them raise your rank for playing extra games. You can’t tell if someone is the best team, or just the most overscheduled team.

It shows up in the R4 rankings. I have a hard time imagining that 7 R4 teams are better than Albion and Blues. But I have an easy time imagining that 7 very good teams got in more games.

In fairness, feel free to take pot shots at my system. None of them are perfect. At the moment, I like YSR with a cap on blowouts: If the game has a predicted gap of 4 or more points, throw it out and recalculate.
 
YSR is far better measure of team performance than GotSoccer, but both have their flaws. You just have to know the teams and have watched them play to understand where they stand. Results help move those views one way or another, but you shouldn't let one-off games here and there dominate your views. Any of the top 5-6 teams can lose a game on any given weekend. What matters is how they perform over time, and more importantly, that they're showing regular improvement in team soccer.

In my view, Surf and Blues are the top two SoCal teams in the age group by a decent margin. I personally give Surf the edge over Blues, but its close. Surf has a larger number of technical and fundamentally sound soccer players, while Blues has more pure athletes and aggression. 3rd is Slammers PA, who has a decent balance of both. Then there's 3-4 really good teams like Arsenal and Albion and a couple others, then there's the rest. I don't know where Eagles stands these days. I haven't seen them play in quite awhile.

These are just my views as I see the age group today, and are by no means perfect or the end-all-be-all. Just the way I see it for now. Enjoy your time out there parents! It's great to have soccer back.
 
Those 6 you mentioned are the top 6; Surf, Blues, Arsenal, Slammers PA, Albion, and Eagles with Surf/Blues at the top. To fill out the top 10, I think it’s Ole, Liverpool, Slammer HB and ???. It’s fun to make these lists and they really don’t mean anything as some teams are going to be completely different next season.
