Two questions on USYS Regionals

1. Not sure

2. In order for an ECNL team to participate in USYS regionals they must have competed in a local USYS league in their area. This would make the eligible as well. This is common but not typical across US at younger ECNL ages. Not common at all once high school kicks in.

Two years ago there was Washington teams at Silverlakes for USYS regionals. That article was 4.5 years old. I do believe they have less registered USYS teams then most states.

Our team is at Idaho right now because everything was last minute this year due to the pandemic and a couple teams chose not to go. Our DOC thought it would be good experience for our girls to go even it overmatched a bit so even though we lost in the semi's of national cup we were able to go.

All Washington teams elected out of usys state cups and regionals. Washington's Power 5 clubs all voted to forgo it I am told because 1) at the time the Washington State DOH/Governor's rules said that if any player at any time tested positive, both teams were out due to contact tracing (even though masks required at the time and even though outside) and this did happen with the US Club teams and it was a lot of disappointment and frustration; 2) All high school sports were being played in the Spring (football, lacrosse, soccer (boys and girls), baseball and softball so fields were really tough to come by and so state cups were really impossible to schedule. Each of the Power 5 clubs has select teams (as opposed to premier teams) and they do not play year round and would have completely missed any games/competition for more than a year if they did not get a select level "founders cup" tournament--so all the Power 5 clubs yielded what field space they might have to that select tournament.
