I come from Vermont, which has a history of being a self-declared independent nation for years before being granted recognition and a negotiated entry into the United States as the 14th State in 1791. When I was visiting relatives in 1991, I refused to buy a Vermont Bicentennial t-shirt because it had the inaccurate "1791 - 1991" logo, where the true birth of the Republic dated to its self-declaration in 1777 -- an important distinction because the new Republic was declaring itself independent not only of King George III, but also of the other 13 Colonies (especially New York).
Hmmm -- Iran is not in the list. It is not surprising that the supporters include Hungary and Israel, but why India, Nigeria, and Kenya?
I am intrigued, but not amused, that some will defend the institution of non-Constitutional concentration camps within the borders of the USA. At least the Cheney administration had the decency to ship its poiltical prisones off to an enclave in Cuba.
