Alright, MAGA, let’s talk about “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” typically the go-to response by Trump supporters when you all can’t defend the indefensible actions and behavior of this president.
Yes, there are some folks out there who obsessively focus on every little thing this president says and does and make way bigger deals out of some of it than there needs to be.
So, if you want to call that “TDS,” I guess you could.
However, for me, the real “TDS” is found within MAGA — a group of people who have proven, repeatedly, that their only set of “values” and “principles” are the whims of whatever Donald Trump is feeling that day.
Imagine if, during the 2024 campaign, all of us said that Trump would start a war with Iran because he’s incompetent and would get manipulated as a useful idiot by Benjamin Netanyahu — MAGA would have denied what we now know to be the reality of what happened and would have accused you of having “TDS.”
Except, after he started that war, the millions of people who spent a decade saying they supported Trump, in part, because he wouldn’t get us into a war with Iran were now mostly fully on board with his war.
You see, that’s actually “TDS.”
As I saw someone bring up on Threads, imagine if a few years ago we all said that Trump would threaten to tear down the Kennedy Center — a memorial for another president — if he was re-elected and the law prevented him from putting his name on the building.
Without a doubt, MAGA would have thought we were crazy and accused us of having “TDS.”
Except, that’s where we are. This president is threatening to tear down a memorial, even though Congress has already approved the money for any needed renovations, unless he’s allowed to put his name on the building.
And nearly every one of his supporters I’ve brought this up to has defended him.
You see, that’s “TDS.”
To this day, Trump still calls any accusations toward him or his family of having close ties to Russia and the Russian government a “Democrat hoax.” If you mention this president’s clear fondness for Russia, it’s not uncommon for the MAGA faithful to say you have “TDS.”
Except, we just learned that this president’s eldest son accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars for his wedding from a Russian oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin — the same son who’s often parroted Russian propaganda — yet the overwhelming majority of Trump supporters don’t seem to care. The same folks who are still obsessed with Hunter Biden’s laptop don’t care about the indisputable reality that the current president’s son accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Russian with connections to Putin.
You see, that’s “TDS.”
Donald Trump has won two out of the last three presidential elections, with both victories coming while a Democrat was president. In fact, in each of those victories, he won in Democrat-run states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania. The Republican Party controls all of Congress, power they obtained while Democrats were in power.
Yet, somehow, in Trump’s world, Democrats are “cheating” and “rigging” elections. Sure, just as long as you ignore all of the facts I just laid out, that argument makes “total sense.”
You see, believing that the party with no power in our government is going to “rig” elections, while trusting the word of the guy who has a well-established pattern of never accepting the results of any elections that don’t go his way — that’s “TDS.”
When he stands on a stage and promises $5,000 checks if Republicans keep power in Congress, a move his administration claims won’t add the roughly $1.4 trillion in debt that it absolutely would, when he could issue those checks right now if he really wanted to because Republicans control Congress and there’s nothing Democrats could do to stop them — as Trump has pointed out several times by mentioning that they passed his tax cuts for the rich without any support from the Democratic Party — and you believe him even though he’s made similar claims in the past about DOGE and tariff “dividends” that never came.
You see, that’s “TDS.”
When Trump continues to say that our current economy is the “best ever,” even though basically every major economic metric is worse now than it was when he took office — including job and GDP growth — while we’re at three-year-high inflation, $4 gas, record diesel prices, and the Fed just had to raise interest rates for the first time in years, and you all actually believe the economy is the “best it’s ever been.”
You see, that’s “TDS.”
I’ll admit, yes, there are some folks who, no matter what Trump does, are going to find a way to attack him and, in some instances, make it a bigger deal than it should be.
That’s fairly normal, because Republicans did the same damn thing to Barack Obama. Only, actually, much worse. I’m sure we all remember the “scandalous” tan suit or the nonstop conspiracies that he had somehow forged two forms of his birth certificate and was part of the Muslim Brotherhood.
But the real “TDS” is MAGA.
The people who would have called all of us “crazy” and “obsessed with Trump” had we said, just a few years ago, that if he were re-elected:
1. He would threaten to tear down a memorial for another president unless he could force his name onto the building.
2. He would start a war with Iran that would last most of 2026 and, seven months into it, have no end in sight.
3. His FBI director would be pulled in front of Congress to explain why he changed the bureau’s policies to now allow people with bestiality convictions to be hired as agents.
4. His eldest son would be given hundreds of thousands of dollars by a Russian oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin.
5. His policies would lead to three-year highs in inflation and the first Fed rate hike in three years.
6. He would trash the very trade deal he signed with Canada, the USMCA, to justify his trade war with our neighbors to the north.
7. He would invade Venezuela, kidnap its leader, then install that dictator’s second-in-command to run the country as a puppet that we would then control through extortion to gain access to that nation’s oil.
8. Gas would hit over $4 a gallon just over a year into his presidency, with diesel prices breaking records.
9. His promise to release all the Epstein files was a lie and, nearly two years into his presidency, he would be orchestrating an ongoing cover-up because his name is mentioned more times in those files than every other person except Jeffrey Epstein.
10. He would accept a $400 million plane from Qatar.
11. He would sue his own government, then “settle” with his own Department of Justice for $1.8 billion in an effort to create a slush fund he would control and give himself and his family full immunity from the IRS.
12. He would allow someone to lead the Pentagon who, shortly after being given the job, was caught sharing top-secret military strike plans on an unsecured app on unsecured mobile devices, where a reporter from The Atlantic was added to the group chat.
Two years ago, had we said all of that, you all would have said we had “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Yet, all of that — and a heck of a lot more — has happened, and you’ve all defended it.
You see, MAGA, that’s “TDS.”

It seems an article Donald Trump's White House used in court to justify its ban of Politico for "threatening national security and spreading falsehoods" cited an "unnamed senior administration official" who was none other than JD Vance — in a story that the White House authorized the media, including Politico, to publish.
We really are living in the dumbest timeline.

"According to the Post, the comments did not come from an unauthorized leak. They were made during an official press call, hosted by the White House itself, in which the administration required participating journalists to identify the speaker only as a 'senior administration official.'
Now, Status has identified that official as Vance.
According to Darcy, the vice president spoke to reporters from multiple outlets during the briefing about the administration's negotiations with Iran. The participating journalists agreed to the White House's terms granting Vance anonymity, Status reported. Status was not part of the briefing and therefore was not held to that agreement.
The Post obtained a recording of the call in which a White House aide explicitly established those ground rules before the briefing began.
'Good afternoon, and thank you for joining this press call,' the aide said. 'The contents of this call are on background, attributable to a senior administration official. By remaining on the line, you agree to those terms. There is no embargo for the contents of the call.'
During the call, Vance discussed the likelihood that the U.S. and Iran would reach an agreement.
'I think the second thing is we do expect to be signing this agreement over the next few days,' he said. 'I can't give you an exact date. And if I were to give you a confidence that we were going to be finding this agreement, I maybe would have said 75 percent this morning. It's probably more like 80, 85 percent now, but it's not 100 percent.'"
Just, wow.
Yes, Trump, in attempting to justify his ban on Politico, cited an article where the vice president was the source — and the White House itself set the parameters for the journalists covering that story, allowing them to publish the information they were being given as long as they didn't specifically identify the source as JD Vance.
And that's one of the six stories they chose to use to claim Politico is spreading "falsehoods that threaten national security" — a story the White House gave to the media.
Again, you really can't make this level of incompetence up.
Though I'm not sure what the best part is:
1. This White House claiming that a story they gave to the media was "spreading falsehoods and threatening national security," which proves that defense of Trump's ban is total bullsh*t and, possibly, that they themselves are the ones spreading "fake news" — since this was their story.
2. They're so incompetent that they used a story they fed to the media in a court filing to "prove Politico is spreading falsehoods" that are a "threat to national security" when they could have used any number of stories — yet somehow managed to pick that one.
