In a statement today (or maybe yesterday by now), t said about Fed Chairman Powell that "I was surprised, frankly, that Biden put him in and extended him, but they did.”

That is interesting in that Powell was "put in" in 2018, when t was President.

Past Presidents have appointed a special prosecutor or independent investigator (e.g., Grant, Coolidge, Truman). President Nixon used his influence in the DOJ to get one fired (see Saturday Night Massacre). There is no current law on the books about how one would be appointed. Absent a veto-proof majority in Congress, it is unlikely that such a law could be crafted in today's political environment.

Congresswoman Bobo from Colo has suggested an interesting twist on this -- appoint former Congressman Matt Gaetz to be the investigator into Epstein's (and associates') sex crimes against children.
