Surf Cup - ain't what it used to be

Surf Cup reaps what it sows.

low paid refs with poor instructions
Low quality teams at levels they shouldn’t be playing
no FIFA match balls for the games
One low FIFA quality ball be game- was out of shape

When does the cost benefit ruin the game..?

When the fights begin.

I was at SC this year. There are 2 videos in that TikTok, the 2nd (with the green grass) being the fight from this year (I don't know about the 1st video). It was not an El Paso team, it was a NoCal team. I watched the full game video on BallerTV, which as of a couple of days ago, hadn't been scrubbed ironically. So anyone who bought a pass for that weekend of SurfCup can see the fight.

It’s an 07 team from Texas according to the comments. I can’t make out the name but they seem to be saying it happened yesterday

The allegation from parents on the thread is that surf allowed it to happen because of the instruction not to card and this game was already out of control by the time the refs decided to card

There’s a group of parents on insta trying to organize a boycott of future surf cups but I can’t tell how large it is and I can’t imagine it last long if a coach tells you lie Johnny must go to surf cup.

The only fight I know of was the 2nd video shown, and it was with my club. The team who attacked the ref was from NoCal.

NO team in the highest division of the 06/07 group should be getting beat 0-8, 0-7, and 0-2.........that's a 17 goal differential....

Now the lawyers are involved.....Sent out the night before the event starts at 10 pm. Go Surf!

Hold on, I stand corrected. The El Paso game was next to the game I watched and spilled over onto the next field. It was not a NoCal team.

OK, I revised my previous comments. I have BallerTV, where the game of this discussion is still online in it's entirety. The match was between East County Surf and RSL Maza. In watching the full game, the Surf team started at least 3 fights during play (like fists thrown), along with multiple other infractions (like a Surf parent who rushed the field), that weren't called. The El Paso team just finally snapped. Yes, the coach assaulted the ref, as did multiple players. This is a highly unfortunate outcome but the bigger picture here is that Surf fostered this unsafe and chaotic environment. For my team alone, we had 2 ER visits during our weekend there. I personally had never seen such thuggery in play in all my years. Surf needs to be held accountable for their direction to the refs and how they managed the event overall.

I agree, the Refs at this tournament did a piss poor job of keeping players safe. It is alleged that Surf directed the refs to let dangerous play go. Which is a horrible character flaw in the organization. However, the Refs should not be taking any direction from tournament hosts except the tournament rules. The rules of the game and player safety should be the only concern of Refs. If they were too weak to do there jobs, it is sad, and it is what appears to have happened. By the way, Surf brought in budget Refs from outside of the region because they didn't want to pay a reasonable wage to the San Diego Refs for the tournament.

"I am responsible for the actions of......." This is insane. I knew one of the lawyers (owners) with SCS and he threaten one of my old pals at Surf Cup to a fight back in the day because he saw his kid kicked another player when the ref wasn't looking and called her out. Talk about hypocrites. Little guy would have got his ass kicked in. He's rich as hell and always gets what he wants. He grabbed me by the neck one time wondering why my dd was playing up on his dd team and taking play time away from his kid. My dd was never invited back because coach got a tongue lashing. What a crock!!!

has anyone produced the alleged communication from the tourney to the refs about not using reds? Or is it still all just based on that one person on Instagram? Have the tourney officials been asked if this direction went out to the refs?

Errr…the first line could be seen to imply personal liability for the manager for the conduct of players, coaches and parents. Why is the manager responsible for the conduct of the coach? In what universe does the manager have any influence over the behavior of the coach and players? Presumably the coach is being asked to sign as well? So now the manager becomes the parent cop but with no authority to expel parents or players from the team? I wouldn’t sign this unless all the parents were required to sign. Poorly drafted too…sometimes we, sometimes I, sometimes we and guests. If it’s a lawyers work it’s a poor one or a rushed job.

100% Grace. Plus, word on the street was someone from HG told refs not to pull cards, especially reds. If that's true, then SCS is the loser i this. SCS destroyed Surf Cup but they sure are making a boat load of money off the girls and boys hard work.

We never had this issue with fights when it truly was the Best of the Best, and money couldn't buy your way in.
My dd team won back-to-back Surf Cups when it truly was Best of the Best and only one group per age group and I believe she won the last of "The Best of the Best" before they went to three Tiers to make triple the money. Black Group, White Group and Brown Group. Plus $20 parking.

Get ready for some suspicious reffing this weekend at Surf College Cup. Looks like they’re using an outside association again. Refs might be okay, but likely working all day rather than just half a day. There’s a huge mental breakdown when you know you’re doing 6 games and are going to be beat by sunset. Then mentally thinking of two more days of the same

Lots of tournaments are bringing referees from Mexico border I talked with a few they bring large group book them in a room and pay minimal fees. It's still more lot more then what they make in Mexico.
