SoCal Elite - exit stage left

Whisper on the street up here in Pomona is that David Oh and his SoCal Elite scattering of teams will be kicked out of SoCal Soccer League (SOCAL) for a variety of legitimate reasons. Good on SOCAL for having a backbone!

The club isn't a traditional club, but a collection of vagabond teams with pissed off coaches splitting from established clubs. Those close to youth soccer know about the way this guy operates, so this is not a huge surprise. Coast Soccer League next.

SoCal elite has been gunning and seemed likely to secure admittance into ea1 up from ea2. They’ve also been lobbying to get a mls next spot. Their younger program is in full recruitment mode right now and the success of some of the other teams seems to be bringing people out. They’ve gone quite a long way from being a disorganized shell of separate teams and getting coordinated such as in play philosophy and keeper training. If true getting kicked out of SoCal (particularly after a team won the national championship) would be a huge blow to that effort. You better have the goods though because if it’s untrue such a rumor might do damage to a lot of teams right now. They are on track to be one of the next big things if they can keep the success and recruitment going and are fierce competition for players with some other solid clubs nearby.

Just like SoCal won’t kick out big name clubs, I doubt they’d tell SoCal Elite, we don’t want your 58 teams here, go to CSL… (https://system.gotsport.com/org_event/events/14215/clubs/13250). Especially when they’re making a push for EA1 on the boys side and GA on the girls side with some very successful teams in DPL and NPL on the girl side.

Whatever the gripe is, you don’t turn away that amount of money as a business. As the expression goes, money talks.. there are plenty of other clubs with worth business practices… SoCal elite has made a great push on the girls side getting Cle, O’Brien and Gio.. imo they’re the next big thing that’s up and coming in the IE..

Just wait and see…they’re out. SoCal have implemented standards and rules and when you blatantly break them you’re out.

What rule did they break?
Probably one of the rules created to prevent smaller clubs from competing with the already established clubs, the ones that created SOCAL. Punishing Tudela and now SoCal Elite, both very amazing clubs that have become competitors for the established clubs, are being punished.

Which rules are you referring to? Please be specific.

This email is being sent to notify the SOCAL membership, including DOC's, coaches, managers and Club Officials, that So Cal Elite FC is being removed as a member of the SOCAL Soccer League starting the Spring 2023 and the 2023/2024 Fall Season.

This email is not being sent to parents but can be forwarded to parents from the SOCAL member clubs should you choose to do so.

As many of you know, So Cal Elite has been posting tryouts for age groups that are outside of the dates, communicated and published, of our Tryout Policy and have continually failed to comply with the Tryout Policy when instructed to do so.

Their teams will be allowed to remain in State Cup for 2023.

As the club will no longer be a member of the SOCAL Soccer League, we no longer have jurisdiction over when they hold their tryouts, but their players are now considered non-SOCAL players and can be invited to your training session as non-SOCAL players.

Please note: players will not be allowed to transfer for Youngers State Cup as we will honor the participation of the So Cal Elite team in the Youngers State Cup event.

So Cal Elite will be exploring their options for a new league to participate in but their players are no longer protected by our Transfer Policy nor our Tryout Policy (with the exception of youngers transfers for State Cup since the roster freeze deadline was January 18, 2023.)

It is not an easy decision to make to remove a club from the league and the decision is not taken lightly but, the Technical Committee, the Tryout Committee and the Board of Directors all voted to remove the club from the league based on the their violation of probation and the Tryout Policy. The rules have to be enforced for all, not just some and this decision, while difficult, was made to protect the rules and policies of the members of the league and those that do choose to follow those rules and policies.

Should you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you

Michelle Chesters

SOCAL Executive Director

Whelp, I guess SOCAL feels it's position is strong enough - having wiped CSL off the map - that they can boot SoCal Elite.
I hope all the kids can stay with their teams/coaches and find a good league and keep playing!
Does anyone know if what area their teams are in? Are they mostly around Pomona?

Maybe this is how CSL makes a comeback??? SoCal Elite teams seem to be pretty strong and CSL is practically devoid of strong teams

Agree. Lots of unfortunate victims, but it's good to see the league is upholding its stance. I am sure other clubs will take note of this.

When is the official SOCAL designated tryout window?
Is it Dec - Jan for youngers?
March - later for olders?

The main group is including the EA2 teams. They have affiliates including a very strong Inland Empire, then West SGV and Nevada. On the boys side, I think their chief competitor is FC Golden State. I have seen ads in the soccer announcement boards that I scratched my head about how they were doing it. One way some clubs play fast and loose with the rules is to recruit for their EA or E64 team and then pass players down that are eligible

If it derails their MLS next or EA1 bid, that's going to be a real blow. The thing they have struggled with is they have competitors in their area that play in the higher leagues and can take the most elite players. Without that pathway, it will be a blow, assuming MLS Next and EA even allow them to continue to compete if they lose their SOCAL status (Oaks FC plays Coast and is in EA2, so maybe they won't care).

From the letter, it doesn't sound like this was the first offense either. So it wasn't just the recruiters being sloppy it seems.
