SilverLakes Fall Showcase — ECNL, RL, GA and E64 Compete

TopBinz

BRONZE
The SilverLakes Showcase has the ECNL, RL, NPL, GA and Elite 64 leagues competing against each other in some of the age brackets. Is this one of the first events that the leagues have been pitted against each other? Great format, and one that we’ve been waiting for. Perhaps the results will be predictable, but I hope not. I mean, I’m sure the ECNL teams will beat the GA teams, but I’m curious how the mid and lower level RL teams will do against the GA, NPL and E64 teams. Would be a bad look for the RL, GA, and NPL if the E64 teams put up some “quality” wins.

I'm not sure ECNL teams beating GA teams is a given.

Yes some ECNL teams will likely clean up but judging by the records some ECNL teams will likely lose left and right. Same goes for GA teams. (I assume since you mentioned GA + didnt mention Next that you meant Girls only)

I'd also watch for ECRL teams rostering ECNL players for wins.

Surf cup (both summer and this coming thanksgiving) often has GA vs ECNL. Those games go either way. Sometimes GA comes out on top and sometimes ECNL comes out on top. For the most part GA beats ECRL.

And when reading that back it sounds like a game of rock paper scissors.

Sorry, but looking at the Silverlakes schedule for the 04/05 girls I’m not really sure how some teams are supposed to motivate themselves? Sporting CA (formerly Arsenal), plays Slammers ECNL twice? HB Koge plays Legends…should be a good game, but follows that up with games against Sporting (beat them 6 weeks ago 8-1) and LAFC ECNL (currently in 8th place).

if you have teams competing against clubs they would otherwise never see (ECNL v. GA, etc.) the showcase makes sense. But I’m not sure how players are supposed to get motivated if they’re going to be playing against teams that are otherwise in their conference/league anyway?

I know of an 06 & 07 GA team that should give the good ECNL teams a run for their money. I guess we will see how it plays out next week.

Less than a year ago, most E64 teams were NPL teams, so I wouldn't say E64 teams beating NPL teams means much of anything. A lot of the E64 teams were at the top of the NPL bracket, so I would expect them to perform well. However, some of the E64 teams have only played a few games throughout the fall, so it will be interesting to see if they can still perform against teams that have played 10+. Another problem that occurs at these showcases is that the organizers rarley place an average ECRL or NPL team in a bracket with average ECNL and GA teams, even when their rankings are very close. I think they are nervous about how they will actually perform against ECNL and GA teams. There were multiple events over the summer that had a lot of cross play, Surf Cup, Blues Cup, West Coast Classic, Legends Summer Showcase, etc... My DD's ECRL team was placed in a bracket with NPL teams, in the West Coast Classic over the summer. One of the three teams was a good match, the other two were painful to watch. Many of the parents of the other teams actually walked off the field about 15 min into the first half and acussed us of sandbagging, even though our coach tryed to get us moved up in the brackets. My DD said she actually felt sick to her stomach because she felt so bad for the other players on the other teams. The other teams had zero chance of scoring a goal, they could not even get past the half; one team actually put all 11 players in the box the entire second half, which does make it very difficult ot score BTW, but you can see it just killed the moral of the opposing team. Our team didn't even attempt to score, the coach used it as a training opprotunity to move the ball around. It was a waste of time for our team, and I've heard similar perpectives from other teams that attended that event. The Blues was a similar experience, but not as bad. It would be nice if these orgainzers would use a ranking app to slate teams into brackets, and not whatever shoot from the hip method they have been using.

Nah.......ECNL comes out on top the overwhelming amount of time........

Slammers ECNL is fielding 2 teams they have enough players on the roster to do so. This is separate from the HB Koge team. So yes Sporting plays slammers team twice but will be different rosters each game. Still lame. Still playing league teams.

To make things even more interesting I imagine many 04/05 girls players that haven't committed yet will get priority playing time.

Yes - it looks like HB Koge should clean up, barring some pretty significant surprises (considering it's the #1 05/04 team in the country right now). The ratings for some of these teams had all of the historical 2004 teams and 2005 teams combined as if they were one team (even when they were playing separately), which masked some of the differences. If the matchups are focused on the specific 2004/2005 teams that are playing currently, here's what it looks like. The only open info is that SC del Sol shows as the 05 GA team entering, which is a full two goals weaker than the way their 04/05 team is playing - hopefully the reality is that the stronger version is here. The Slammers ECNL White team appears too new for a rating at all.

Heard Koge (04/05) has withdrawn from the Silverlakes showcase. From what I’ve heard, every kid on their roster is committed anyway…so not sure why they’d even sign up??

Seriously….many of these older ECNL teams just came back from 3 games in 3 days in PHX, have league games (we have 2) this weekend, so what is the point of 3 more games in 3 days over a holiday?
I seriously doubt many of the committed girls will be planning to play.
