Jerome is one of the best out there. Motivates your kid to work harder.
 
As a club and private Keeper coach in South OC I see the difficulties in teaching shot blocking as well as keeper field management. It can be done and you should challenge your keeper coach to provide both.

The biggest challenge in a club setting is the difference in ages and ability. If you've got a rookie keeper in the group, you are going to be focusing on catching and diving basics. It can be done, but coaching keepers is a bit like whack-a-mole....there's always another problem that needs to be addressed.

I hear what you are saying Grace, but again this can be done. If the coach knows who is showing up for each training session they can design the session plan based on the needs of the keeper and the head coach.i can have keepers at different levels in the same session, you just need to manage the expectations of all involved. Communication is key.

Agree communication is key. But communication is one of the biggest problems in club soccer, let alone having active communication between the GK coach and the coaches for the various teams. If you've managed to do it, more power to you...you are the purple cow in a field of black and whites!

Haaaa!!! Permission to use purple cow! In all honesty we have a great program built on honesty and communication. I’m too old for any BS. :)

My kid was lucky enough to have a great keeper coach when he was 11-12. He was very technical and my boy learned a lot in a very short period of time. About 4 years ago this keeper coach was offered a spot to play internationally and he left the States. I tried everyone available locally in South Orange county (didn't have an option to drive far), but could not find anyone even remotely close to what this guy was.
He still comes once in while to visit his folks and whenever he is here in Cali, my kid is still getting a session or two with him. I wish it would be more trainers like him - true professionals who care.

If you're in South O.C. you should check out a guy who trains in Huntington Beach. big joe from iga. intense guy but teaches the game, not the drills.
