Preseason DA Rankings

Slammers is stacked. They will compete with Surf, Legends, Blues, and I think Galaxy SD at the top (though Galaxy might be a stretch given some results, but I think they have potential). West Coast, Galaxy LA, Pats, Real, will be in the middle, fighting to get up to the top group. Albion and Eagles will be fighting for respectability, but it likely won't happen. LA Premier will be hoping to get a win against a California team and not get kicked out of Academy after one season (I think they get that win).

Will there be regulation in DA? If teams are not cutting it can they be removed? That team at surfcup could be an example.

There is no way they adopt a relegation/promotion model. First, who would replace the relegated teams? Second, why would USSDA only give an organization (that was just selected to join the GDA in the last 18 months) one year to prove their worth? Third and most importantly, MLS does not have a relegation/promotion structure. US Soccer does not believe in a relegation/promotion system.

I just looked at the Slammers U15 roster and they added another stud striker. These two amazing strikers have played up at their prior clubs, so it is likely that these two players play with the U16/U17 team throughout the season, but when they play their "true" age group, all other defenses better watch out.

It was said before and I think it still holds true. The organizations that were extremely successful in prior seasons (ECNL and SCDSL) will continue to be the most successful GDA organizations. The rich keep getting richer.

Any information on the Del Sol V Beach? Surprised by the lopsided game.
Don't know about this game, but Del sol had one of the better 03 ecnl teams last season. Now as the only academy team in the area, if they improved, they would be a top academy team.

Um, didn't Del Sol finish 7th in ecnl?
Well, maybe. But my daughter plays for a team that finished above them in the standings, and she said those were two really tough games.

Plus, sixth in the sw last year was really good. Take out strikers and arsenal since they aren't academy, add a few players, and it's a top team.

You made some good points, competition will be deep and strong in DA. The long season should favor the ECNL teams from last year. I guess, Beach will have to adapt to the higher level of play.

Rankings after Week 1:

1. Surf (1-0; 5 GF, 2 GA) -- Class of the league demolishes good del Sol team.
2. Legends (1-0; 5, 0) -- Easy winner against opponent not in their league (I guess they are in their league, but. . .).
3. Blues (1-0; 1, 0) -- Business as usual, their defense is really strong.
4. Slammers (0-0-1; 1,1) -- Disappointing tie given the talent, but Galaxy SD will be better than expected.
5. Galaxy SD (0-0-1; 1,1) -- Big strong team will be in most games. This team will surprise.
6. SC del Sol (1-1; 7, 5) -- Showed they belong with big win over Beach.
7. West Coast (0-1; 0, 1) -- Always close, but always still second fiddle in OC to Blues. Must be tough.
8. Beach (1-1; 4,6) -- Whirlwind weekend with big win over Eagles and big loss to del Sol.
9. Real So Cal -- Debuts next Sunday against Slammers.
10. Galaxy (1-0; 3,0) -- Nice win over a weak Pats team that will struggle all season. Galaxy showed it can score.
11. Albion -- Debuts next Sunday against Surf. Will be a tough way to start.
12. Eagles (0-1; 1, 4) -- Big loss to Beach who got demolished by del Sol. What happens when del Sol plays Eagles. Ugh.
13. Pateadores (0-1; 0, 3) -- Convincing loss to a bottom half team. They will struggle to win games. Long season ahead.
14. LA Premier (0-1; 0, 5) -- Leads league in negative goal differential after 5-0 loss. At least they are first in something.

2nd weekend's games & predictions:

Eagles vs Legends....Legends wins big
La Galaxy Sd vs WestCoast.... WestCoast wins
Surf vs Albion....Surf wins big
Slammers vs Real SoCal....Slammers wins
Blues vs Pats....Blues wins big
La Premiere vs La Galaxy.... La Galaxy wins

Wow. First big surprise. Well done Albion.

Surf missing the two game-changers that were called to Ynt camp. Surf 04 was also missing the center mid that was called, and played girls in different positions and gave some different girls more play time. It sounds like both teams considered Albion an easy win, so they played around with roster and lineups, but that didn't work out too well for the 03 team.

Week 2 Rankings
(Record and Goals For/Against)

1. Legends (2-0; 11, 0) -- 11 goals for, 0 against. Impressive, but came against two "Academy" teams most Flight 1 teams would beat.
2. Surf (1-0-1; 6, 3) -- Maybe the best team, but role players did not come through when the top dogs were missing.
3. Blues (2-0; 4, 0) -- Another game, another win. That's Blues. Need to convert more opportunities to take pressure off super defense.
4. Galaxy SD (1-0-1; 3,1) -- Meeting expectations with nice win over West Coast. This team can play.
5. Slammers (2-0-1; 1,1) -- Tight win over Real, but strong record to start the season.
6. SC del Sol (1-1; 7, 5) -- Off week. I'm not sure I'd want to travel this much with every other team from out-of-state.
7. Albion -- (0-0-1; 1,1) -- Nice tie against great Surf team. Surf missing a few or not, Albion came to play.
8. Beach (1-1; 4,6) -- Off week. This team can make some noise.
9. Galaxy (2-0; 7,2) -- Can't complain with 7 goals in 2 games, but they have not played the big boys yet.
10. West Coast (0-2; 0, 3) -- Tough games against good teams. They have the potential to move up.
11. Real So Cal -- (0-1; 0,1) -- Definitely better than than the bottom 3. Interested to see what they do.
12. Pateadores (0-2; 0, 6) -- You know the other teams are bad when you lose 3-0 and move up in the rankings.
13. LA Premier (0-2; 2, 9) -- 9 goals in 2 games is not pretty, but at least they scored and they are not Eagles.
14. Eagles (0-2; 1, 10) -- These bottom teams really look like they don't below. 6-0 loss should never happen to an "Academy" team.

Just a top ten:

1. Surf-They will win the league at this point;
2. Slammers-They havent hit their best stride yet;will they with the new coach?;
3. Blues-Solid core in the middle with the mids and defense;
4. Legends-Easy schedule to commence year; see if the team gels when playing better competition (lost to slammers in showcase);
5. Del Sol-Man handled Beach; will see if consistent; especially with alot of travel.;
6. Beach-they will return as a threat for many teams; matchups sometimes don't workout;
7. LAGSD-4 points with smoking mirrors; see if it lasts through a long year;
8. WCFC-bad luck and draw has them with 2 losses to start; knock the ball around with the best;
9. Albion-early points is a postive with an excellent coach; might be better later in year?
10. Real So Cal- Should have the experience with tough games, i would be surprised if not in the top ten later in the year.

Week 3 Rankings
(Record and Goals For/Against)

I am only including the in division games in the records and goals numbers because some of the out of division teams are so bad and everyone does not play the same out of division teams. Plus, So Cal only lost 1 game to the out of divisions teams, so wins don't tell much. However, the results did impact the rankings.

1. Legends (2-0; 11, 0) -- 2 more wins against two terrible teams. The Burlingame team has lost 12-0, 11-0, 11-0, 10-0, 8-0, 6-0, 3-0 (against Surf B team), and 4-1 . Many of the games could have been much worse.
2. Surf (1-0-1; 6, 3) -- Bye weekend. They need a big win against LA Premier next weekend to show the Albion tie was just a fluke.
3. Blues (2-0; 4, 0) -- Bye weekend. They get an undefeated Albion team next weekend. A loss would be costly.
4. Slammers (2-0-1; 1,1) -- Nice win over Placer United, one of the better non division teams. They should add another win against Galaxy next weekend.
5. Galaxy SD (1-0-1; 3,1) -- Drops a spot after a less than impressive win against PSV (3-1). West Coast beat PSV 5-0. SDG lacks some scoring punch, but they will play anyone tough.
6. Albion -- (2-0-1; 3,2) -- Wins only division game this weekend 2-1 against Real. This team is tough and will get a chance to prove it against Blues next weekend.
7. SC del Sol (1-1; 7, 5) -- Drops a spot, but still in the mix.
8. Galaxy (2-0; 7,2) -- Nice win over Earthquake team that beat West Coast. This team keeps winning. Maybe they are better than I think.
9. Beach (1-1; 4,6) -- Off again. Not sure who made the schedules. Game against Albion next week should tell a lot about both teams.
10. West Coast (0-2; 0, 3) -- Only So. Cal team to lose out of division, but rebounded with nice Sunday win against PSV to hold its spot.
11. LA Premier (0-2; 2, 9) -- Moves up 2 spots with 2 wins. Even against lesser competition, 2 good wins can turn a season around. While Burlingame is terrible, the win against Lamorinda was a good one.
12. Real So Cal -- (0-2; 1,3) -- Tough loss to Albion. They need to beat Eagles next week or the team morale will be in worse shape than it already is.
13. Pateadores (0-2; 0, 6) -- Bye weekend. This team badly needed a win against an out of division team.
14. Eagles (0-2; 1, 10) -- Bye weekend. Eagles has a chance for two wins next weekend against two weaker teams. If they don't get it least one, they may not get an in division win all year.
