When I grew up in Vermont, blue laws forbad sale of alcohol on Sunday (and in some towns no alcohol could be sold at any time, depending on the results of the "local option" vote held every year). Then the ski industry grew up - at first it was just a quaint ruralism that bars had to shut down on Saturday night at Midnight, but eventually the laws were amended to allow bars to stay open until 2 AM Sunday, and could re-open at Noon (again, subject to local option). The California Legislature busy at work...

California lawmakers are fighting for your right to party.

McCarthy leads GOP charge against Silicon Valley

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is leading the charge against President Trump’s new favorite punching bag: big tech.
The California Republican, who hopes to replace Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) next year, has been aggressively promoting a campaign to “stop the bias,” referring to what critics say is a pattern of discrimination against conservative voices on social media.
To that end, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill this week at a hearing requested by McCarthy.
“I’ve had many conversations with the president about how we have to stop this bias,” McCarthy, one of Trump’s closest allies on Capitol Hill, told Fox News on Thursday.
“I’ve spoken to Jack Dorsey throughout the month,” McCarthy added. “He and I philosophically disagree, but we do agree on one thing: We believe in the First Amendment. But we also believe in transparency and accountability.”
The majority leader’s recent crusade against social media comes at a time when Trump has ramped up his own rhetoric against the tech industry. His eagerness to champion the cause could endear him to both the White House and conservative lawmakers -- two constituencies that could be crucial to securing the Speakership.
Fair and balanced. So the Republican party has hit the point where they hate California so badly that our states own Representatives are now actively working against our states economic interests.
Shame on you who vote for Republican's and help them steal local jobs and redistribute them to Texas and North Carolina...
Fair and balanced.

Germany’s Heiko Maas: ‘Get up off the sofa and speak up’ against far right
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said citizens must do more to tackle racism and the far right in the wake of a week of often violent protests in Chemnitz.
Mass told Bild am Sonntag that people must “get up off the sofa and speak up.”
“We must stand up to the right-wing extremists. We can’t duck away. We must show our faces against neo-Nazis and anti-Semites,” he said. “Only then will Germany’s reputation not be permanently marred by xenophobic crimes.”
He continued, “If the Hitler salute is shown on our streets today once again, it will be a disgrace to our country.”
On Saturday, thousands marched through Chemnitz, an eastern city that has been rocked by violent protests in the wake of the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old German. The first protests, last Sunday, drew around 800 people, some of whom reportedly attacked police and people they thought were immigrants, shouting “We are the people” and “You’re not welcome here.”
Peter Altmaier, the economic affairs minister and Angela Merkel’s former chief of staff, told the BBC on Saturday, “I feel ashamed when I see this violence that was directed against innocent people, immigrant people, and this is absolutely not acceptable.”
I have never put someone on ignore, you?Personally I would find that ignoring news that disagrees with my opinion is a short-cut to thinking. But in all fairness, I understand why you do it though.
