Player card/leaving club

We recently signed up for a new club, but after a few issues we’ve decided it will not be a good fit.

What is protocol for being “released”

We’ve paid about 1/3 the total cost.
We know we are out the uniform fees.

Do we also need to pay the full registration to get out?

Thank you

Is it an ECNL club and your trying to leave to MLS? if thats the case, you can just leave. If its to another ECNL club, it depends on their policy. The season hasnt started yet, you should be able to leave if you give them a good reason (travel distance, etc). I think it depends on your relationship with the club.

You should have until June 30th to "easily" transfer clubs...If I'm recalling correctly socal / US club soccer has a transfer freeze (no switching clubs) after July 1st. Before then, It still considered open tryout season and you should be able to request the transfer of your player card (but you'll be out fees you have already paid) Whether or not your club makes that easy....depends of the director. Some have a policy that if they've give any sort of scholarship you have to pay the full value before you get your card.

If you are getting pushback, you can email US Club Soccer in your region and they should be able to manually push it through on their end .

This doc explains a little better the steps you can take. Put your request in writing now/ soon so its in before the window closes.

You'll need to check the contract you signed. Some clubs (e.g., Albion) demand full fees be paid before release. Whether that holds up in court I have no idea (since the governing body says otherwise), but I would not expect it to be pleasant/easy if your contract has a similar clause.
