Open State Cup

Better late than never?

So its just another tournament like all the rest but now you don't have to a CS card like before and participated in a CA sanctioned league ?

Now if they could reduce those what $$950 entry fees and have more local play, reasonable scheduling, better fields they might be on to something.

Actually, you DO have to have Cal South player cards. You just don't have to play in a Cal South league (because there is only one left with not enough teams to hold State Cup (look at last year's State and National Cup registration and you'll see).

SOCAL already went to this State Cup model last year. It's why Cal South followed suit this year. That and they didn't have anyone playing last year and those that did have mostly moved to SOCAL now.

This isn't anything new in the market. They are just trying to reclaim some registration $$ because teams will need Cal South player cards.

Lipstick on a pig.

At this point Cal South's just desperate but if they want to use their Grant money from the pandemic to pay board members it needs to be business as usual. I'm sure they will be able to feed off the smaller clubs for years to come and ramp up revenue pushing more bogus ODP events through out the year.
