New expansion MLS Next HG clubs coming?

MLS Next is starting to announce new expansion clubs to their homegrown division....any rumors of NorCal getting new clubs added? With Sherifs and Breakers both folding, the league creating 2 divisions (South and North), I'd expect a few more clubs could be added for the 26/27 season...

Where do you hear there would be north and south divisions? MLS next HG in NorCal now only have around 7/8 games per season..Anyone has news on the new ‘skyline’/mvla mls next club that was offering tryouts last year but was never materialized.

On the MLS Next website you can clearly see the U15 and above NorCal league standings are split into North and South. Teams play their division teams 2x, and the other division 1x. It's why NorCal teams went from 30+ matches / season to barely 20.

They also eliminated some games all together .. Bay Area HG teams used to play Quakes, Timbers, Seattle , whitecaps and this season only playing whitecaps and quakes

Yes, the opportunity and experience keeps getting watered down while revenue keeps increasing. The American (Soccer) Dream!

Looks like no new MLSN HG teams coming to NorCal. It's a bit surprising given Sherifs and Breakers have both gone under, and the pro academies are eliminating games vs HG teams.

After a great (debut) HS season, one of my son's friends just joined an HG team for next season. He was conflicted as the HS experience was a lot of fun, but the idea of showcasing himself in front of the pro-academy teams won out. Looking at his new team's results on the rankings app, I was a little worried he might end up disappointed as it had been a long time since they'd played one of the local pro-academies, so I was curious as to how that works - the academies largely just seem to play each other once you hit HS age.

It's the right call. There's not enough talent to support any more teams. In fact, wouldn't be a bad idea to take away another 2-3 teams.

You played down against the MLS Academy team, so it really isn't worth it to showcase your skills. My kid had a great time playing HS Soccer. His ECNL team had 2 players who got recruited by MLS Academy last season.

This isn't my son... it's his buddy, who was torn between sticking with HS or MLS HG next season. Our school isn't a soccer powerhouse, but we seem to have a good batch at the JV level who haven't lost a game in 2 years now, so there's hope they can put something together at Varsity next year (our school automatically puts all Seniors on Varsity and won't allow Freshmen, which is probably why we're not a soccer powerhouse, LOL).

MLS HD does not offer anything better compared with ECNL, and missing HS soccer is a big turnoff. The special bond with your teammates from the same school, the CIF playoff with a full stadium, and Senior Night cannot be replaced by MLSN.

The rumor is AFC in San Jose has a good chance of getting promoted to HG.
They've been poaching kids for years telling them they were going to get, and then got, MLS N. Ill-informed parents joined not knowing it was actually only a bullsh*t AD team. They may very well get an HG team at some point, but they haven't done much to deserve it.

Also rumors that Seals will be leaving MLSN HG. So Sheriffs, Breakers and Seals all gone....would make sense to add a new HG team at some point. The amount of games though for teams was already bad, now 2 more games will be gone....

I was told all teams are top 4 or better in the academy division and that they turned down ECNL for boys last year with the promise if they preformed well they would get promoted.

I guess we will find out over next couple of weeks.

That entire AD division is weaksauce. The teams just aren't that good. Promoting a midpack team from there to HG is due to league financial goals rather than actual team performance. They will get destroyed until/unless the club is able to use the new badge to recruit almost an entirely new team once again at the top level. Parents of kids who left NPL and premier teams (and weren't clear standouts) for the promise of "MLS" don't understand this reality.
