National Cup - 04s - Tech Specs

Day 1 Recap
Groups A - E all got two games in on Saturday and Groups F - I will have double headers on Sunday.

The only advantage for the ladder is the landscape for the Wild Card berth has been laid out and it will either take 6 or 7 points to nab the "1" sole prized Wildcard berth.

RSC did their thing in group 1 but CDA Slammers - Huie impressed in keeping it close and edging out Notts to give themselves a chance if they beat FRAM on Sunday, they'll need some help but overall they had a good showing on day 1.

RSC - White kept true to form and made it rough for both Legends and Albion but going into their final game with 2 points, they'll need Legends and Albion to draw in addition to a big win over Pats - Irvine to win the group. Everything points to that being a long shot and Legends vs Albion being for the group and the ticket into the 2nd round.

Blues - Dido and Sharks took care of business and now control their own destiny in a final game that should be a good one for both teams that have gone through so much change coming into National Cup. A draw and it's possible for both teams to advance.

Galaxy SD and Surf II battle it out on Sunday, both teams won their first two group games but Galaxy SD is putting up some scary amount of goals. Surf will look to slow them down, while Galaxy looks to move it around and use their depth to overwhelm Surf II.

Arsenal SD and Rebels looks to be one of the better games to watch on Sunday. So Cal Academy with an outside shot with a little bit of help needed after taking both Arsenal SD & Rebels to the draw.

Beach SB and Eagles was a battle and they're still the favorites in this group although Breakers turned some heads with the throttling they put on Surf West.

CDA Slammers Macias took care of business in their opener and look to do more of the same on Sunday.

Both Strikers OC and CDA Segovia had closer than expected results and will need to turn it up on Day 2.

Group I was shaken up with Freedoms win over Legends Riverside and now West Coast looks to lock it down in a very tight grouping.

This just in.....Legends ties Albion and punches their ticket into the 2nd round on fewer Goals Allowed. West side upsets Beach SB (whaaaaaa? Talk about a transformation and peaking at the right time!). The afternoon game between eagles and Westside will determine that group winner.

Why would they reseed? New to all this sorry
Considering they didn't go off previous year results, Cal South had the "favorites" winning almost all the groups this weekend, except Westside. West Coast was slightly ranked behind Legends Riverside but Rangers was slotted in right they ended up coming through as the Wildcard. Not a bad job by Cal South putting together the 1st Round Groups.

So that means their brackets should hold up?
If so wow- A and D. Wow
Have to say if any team can take Surf on its CDA.
D bracket is over the top rough. Those girls will be sore

That's my DD's team! We parents are all very proud of their effort and their growth. We really had our issues early in the season, but after making a roster change and a with lot of hard work, we really have improved. We're doing this without a full-time goalie - 4-5 of the girls are rotating through that position and are giving it their all. I know I didn't expect to be heading back to Norco next weekend, but I'm happy to do it!

Well done to all the girls. Whatever the outcome, they all played hard and hopefully had some fun too. Congrats to all the teams advancing, it was no easy task.

How big of a roster change?

We actually did have a goalie, completely new to the position, and to club soccer. By the 5th game or so, after 3 straight games giving up 7 goals, the coach could see that it wasn't working out, and I think was worried about the rest of the girls becoming demoralized. So he benched the keeper, and went to a rotation of field players. The team picked up after that.

Sigh ... being a keeper is hard, and finding a good experienced one is hard too.
