Medal Ceremony No-Show

My girl won the ship yesterday but the other team did not attend the medal ceremony. I saw the manager walking away with the finalist medals. I asked the tent and they said no, they are not attending.

Is this a thing? I understand that games can get heated but being a good sportsman/woman usually prevails. It wasn't even a heated game, IMHO.

What is your experience?

I’ve seen that a couple times but it was due to extreme weather, rain/heat. That was a bit more understandable. Definitely sounds like unsportsmanlike conduct.

Also sounds like the team itself may be having some issues.

Or a rebuttal to what they perceived was unsportsmanlike conduct by the opponent and/or the tournament administration during the tournament.

I’ve seen the above scenarios but I’ve also seen it where there was a coaching conflict and the coach wasn’t able to attend the ceremony but wanted to hand out the medals at another time so they could focus on their other team with the conflict.

Never saw that happened. My dd teams were usually the winner but got a few second-place medals and everyone showed up. Sore losers, MOO!

Was there multiple other age groups ahead of you waiting to get medals ?

I’ve seen it where it was going be another 30-45 minutes just for the medal ceremony and the team was from out of town . They wanted to get on the road

I question the value of having the runner ups have to sit there and watch the team who vanquished them celebrate. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the handshake line. I'd just as soon get on the road whether I live across town or out of state.

No, we walked right on up to the chairs.

I've seen a u10 team leave 2nd place medals on the table and literally walk by the winners as medals were being awarded on the way to their cars.

This was an AZ tournament during covid + they were heading back to SD. So I understand just wanting to get on the road. But come on, at least pick up the medals on the way out and have the coach award players at the next practice.
