I did not know this existed for players this young. Seniors in high school I can understand a little more. Can someone enlighten me on how they determine the rankings?

It's far from perfect. I'd say it does a good job of identifying good players (most everybody on the list that I know is excellent). But not a great job of capturing ALL of the good players, especially at the younger ages (there are plenty of really good ones that aren't on the list).

I really don't see any value in this sort of subjective ranking of players at this age. Maybe a group listing that's not ranked of "who to watch" at the most. This just encourages the craziness of youth sports in a negative way and could be very harmful to some young players.

Don't think anyone would really disagree, but this happens in every single youth sport (soccer pales in comparison to the multitude of rankings - as young as 6th grade - for football or basketball). It's proven clickbait that makes the sites a sizeable chunk of their revenue.
