Goalkeepers and penalty kicks

Been seeing a lot of these conference tournaments ending in penalty kicks. Noticed a couple teams go to a keeper on the bench for the kicks, including one who ended up doing this 3 different games, her team won, going to NCAA, and she was Tourney MVP. In the NWSL, always thought Jane Campbell was an average keeper, but she had a save percentage on penalty kicks of over 50%. Very interesting to see how these things play out.

Yeah I always thought it would be tough for a keeper to come off the bench and stop PK's, but obviously it works in a lot of cases because I've seen multiple coaches do it that way. I suppose some GK's are just gifted at that specific task of stopping PKs, and others are better at managing the game and comanding the defense & distribution so they get the minutes and the PK specialist has to wait for their moment of glory.

Tim Krul from the Netherlands was subbed in for Jasper Cillessen before the shootout with Costa Rica in the 2014 WC quarter finals.
Tim was just better that year than Jasper with PKs.
He had several good Premier league pk saves and had incorporated more penalty work in his trainging
