Get ready folks

Ultimately, it's all speculation until we see how parents (and clubs) react to the age switch. I am pretty confident that anyone thinking ECNL is now going to have the upper hand and will be more competitive than MLS N HD(and harder to make teams), is going to find themselves disappointed in a few months.

I would love to hear insights on what is happening at tryouts with age change from others.

I have seen one of the top ranked SoCal clubs with many teams per age group have basically an entire team dropping down taking all of the spots of the current A team (who is likely to win state cup.) I assume all the largest and best clubs are going to benefit most from this as they likely will have a team that could compete in 1 age group up at the top level. Will the scores get even more lopsided for these clubs next year at the younger age groups?

For my son's smaller city club, it's just sorta a shuffling players around a bit. Interesting, in my son's age group, they currently have 3x boys teams. The lowest tier team is almost entirely younger players, and that team (essentially) is being moved down more/less intact. But for most of the age groups, there will just be some shuffling around of players for next year. They also said some of the NPL teams may just play up next year, to keep the current teams intact.

It's too early to say for us how it will shake out, though, cause tryouts are not until April (U16 upcoming).

It doesn't seem like the shift will change much in terms of which clubs are better/worse, though. It just shifts players around a bit.
