Elite 64 vs Match Fit - what happened

Larzby

SILVER ELITE
Does anyone know what happened with Match Fit Academy and the Elite 64. From their press release:

"Recently, USYS awarded Match Fit Academy, from New Jersey, with a position in E-64 and then rescinded the offer. “Quite frankly, we just got nutmegged,” explained Gilbert. “In this instance, we reacted to hearsay and accusations from adults without any collaborative supporting facts and the integrity of our process failed. We do our best to not make mistakes; yet when we do, we immediately own them and develop the remedy. It’s unfortunate that Match Fit Academy shouldered the brunt of this issue despite no wrongdoing on their end. Match Fit Academy meets all competitive standards and embodies our mission, vision, and core values. I’m sorry we did not give Match Fit the appropriate protective process and our team acted quickly and appropriately to remedy this situation. After rectifying our mistake, we welcome Match Fit Academy back into E-64 and look forward to watching their teams play this fall and for years to come.”"

All you need to do is go to TalkingSoccer forum under New Jersey and see why. Seems there are a lot of rumors, rumors of rumors, and different opinions supporting both sides of the rumors of rumors.

In our dealings with MFA, never had any issue with it's coaches or players but the parents are certainly some of the worst of the worst. Same goes for many of the New Jersey clubs, whether ECNL, GA, or USYS. Can't blame them either though, it's just the environment of New Jersey.

I've read the forum you mention. I've also reffed and been a spectator/parent against MFA ( and I'll say PDA too since that forum weems to be just a back and forth between the two of them)
If E64 leaned on that forum for any input from it thats a real shame. That forum is everything from comical, to disgusting.
If there is personal observation, etc. thats different.

I couldnt imagine the sidelines of a New Jersey club soccer game. That might be my personal version of eternal damnation.

Well, i've been the center and assistant in maybe 4 or5 games with MFA and PDA over the last several years.
Its been mostly highschool age teams during west coast showcases. If I bucket behavior into quartiles they are in the 4th quartile for sure, the matches Ive been in. If they are losing it becomes a push to the lunatic fringe in behavior.
Again, the kids were there to just play and for the most part try to stay focused.

I did watch a PDA game last year in Florida against local conference team. PDA lost.
I was handing out virtual yellow cards in my head to players and parents during the game just as an observer. These were 08s. and kids were swearing and the parents had moved behind the other teams parents screaming at their own defenders to stop the attack.
It devolves when you start to call your own kids names in a game while standing behind the other teams parents.
I felt the parents yelling at them probably helped seal the loss because their kids were already having a tough time competing just with the other team and i've said this for years.
When parents say anything durig a game and the kids hear them it has an impact, it takes their attention away from the they are doing and the game can change in a moment.

My 2007 has been playing against the NJ & NY teams since she was about 9. No matter which team you are playing, the sidelines are just next level awful. Embarrassing behavior almost every game. When they played PDA last season (U14) two of the PDA parents got ejected about 10 minutes apart. Ref made them go to their cars. Made my day.

And don’t even get me started on driving down there. We used our EZ Toll Pass to drive from Boston to PDA and went through probably 10-12 tolls for the ECNL May showcase. For whatever reason 2 of the tolls didn’t pick up the EZ pass, so I just got a bill in the mail for two toll violations totaling $3 and each came with a $50 fine. F that whole state.

I don't know... My son just spent a few days practicing with Vistula Garfield and everyone seemed nice. We played them a few years ago in Las Vegas and everything seemed civil.
