Greetings,
My kid will be in U13 (again) next season with the age change. He is currently playing in ECRL with a club (Club A) which runs through the end of May (playoffs in June/July). He does not want to stay with this current team next season for reasons I won't get into, and has offers from other clubs.
Here is where it gets tricky. Another club (Club B) has offered him a spot on a Flight 1 team for the SoCal league spring season, with him joining their ECRL or ECNL team in the fall. This would allow them to further evaluate him until the new fall ECRL/ECNL season and see if he is good enough to move up to ECNL. The new club (Club B) told us that because his current team with the other club (Club A) is a "Regional" team, based on Policy 4.13(b) of the US Club Soccer manual he could be dual rostered for both a ECRL team (Club A) and SoCal league team (Club B) at the same time, with two different clubs (Member Organizations per the policy). I won't post the policy text here for brevity but it's easy to find.
This is something that we would only consider for the spring, so that he can start becoming familiar with the new club while finishing up his season with the old club. We understand all the challenges and issues that go along with being dual rostered, especially with 2 different clubs. Even if it is allowed from a regulatory standpoint, we don't know how his current club will react and we don't want to be released from his current team. We have a decent chance to make the ECRL playoffs and we would obviously prioritize the ECRL team until we are through the season and potential playoffs.
We wanted to know if anyone else has any experience with this type of situation, and how the clubs reacted. Or, if you think the new club is interpreting the policy wrong and it's actually not allowed, that would be good feedback as well. I didn't create this thread to debate the pros and cons of how this will affect his development, or our personal life, so those responses won't be needed. Much appreciated.
Regards,
Gozer
