All Things Age Change

The time is upon us when we learn where the chips will fall. Our club is having new age group training later this month where we'll at least now who the coaches will be for the age groups. It's exciting and nerve wracking at the same time, as both of my kid's 7v7 teams will be basically split in half.

Has anyone's club done a good job of communicating with parents? Have they told coaches what teams they are getting? It's always an anxious time of year for us parents regardless, but the breaking up of good teams makes it even more tough.

My son's club has been communicating about the change fairly regularly. They will be doing mixed sessions for the younger kids in the next couple of months, going into try outs early next year. The older team (HS age) evaluations are deferred until after the HS season. My impression is that actual teams will not be decided until post try outs (for all teams), and coaches will be roughly the same (with coaches typically staying with their "older" kids, in terms of new age cutoffs).

I think some of our NPL teams are intending to effectively play up somewhat also, with full team intact, but unsure if that's fully decided pending try outs and shuffling. My son is in HS now, though, so I won't see what the effect is until at least March next year (at which point we'll be figuring out if we're still doing club, and if so, with which club anyway).

As far as I’m aware neither mlsn or mls2/ad has made any final decision yet but the window for them to make the change for their youngest teams is rapidly closing since player identification is well underway for the academies. If they don’t make a final decision before thanksgiving week it’s going to be the same disruptive s show the rollout of mls2 was.

We're waiting for our club presidnet's kid to decide if he still wants to play soccer next year. If he (born in December) does, then we will move to SY. If not, we will stay with BY.
