Once you're under contract with a particular club which I'd assume they'd try to do to any potential talent in their area. The club basically owns you and a formal process needs to occur if you're transferring to a different club.

MLS Next knows who the top players are by 16 so it would be difficult to just move and play for a different club if you've already been identified.

That kind of data doesn't really exist. Also because MLSN isn't age bound it wouldn't make sense. Check out this link + you'll see what I mean.

Sorry, I was asking specifically about kids that are in protected lists for MLS teams in their territories.

As an example, Galaxy can place 54 youth players on a protected lists where there is now a formal process in place if any other MLS team wants to sign them to a professional contract.

The breakdown is 45 from their current academy teams but 9 could be from the area but not on their teams (i.e. playing with Legends, Beach, Fram, Strikers, TFA, etc)

Obviously if you aren't on that list of 54, then it doesn't really matter - you can go anywhere.

My question is IF THE KID IS ON A PROTECTED LIST, can these boarding programs (SDFC, Philly, Utah) bring them anyway? The legal question here is I guess because they've "MOVED", are they not in their previous territory anymore and thus not subject to territorial protected lists?

Like I know if the family picked up and moved from LA to NY for example then it doesn't matter if the kid is in the protected list or not, he's not in LA's territory anymore. I just was wondering what boarding/living in Philly or SD or Utah does in terms of that...
