2020 State Cup

Somehow mentions of San Diego and Fullerton got the blood going on this board. We are about 6.3% of the way to the 2010 board where people are boldly predicting which player will score the first goal and debating who is the best right back in the age group. What a beautiful world.

Who knew that Fullerton would take center stage of anything? That's like saying Cuba and North Korea would carry the torch for socialist communism into the 21st century. That would never happen! Wait a minute...

You guys should all belong to a country club, carry a 7 handicap, and look at 400 yards of grass hoping to hole out in three shots. All in the name of a club championship.

Instead, you willingly decided to belong to a soccer club, carry lawn chairs, and stare at 80 yards of grass hoping to get three goals. All in the name of a division 2 scholarship.

All of you are heroes. All deserving a win. Enjoy your games and let's all report fun facts from the weekend on Monday.
You must not be a fan of ESPN or fox sports. That’s the great thing about sports, everyone can speculate. Like Jim Rome used to say “ Have a take and back it up or have a take and don’t suck”.

Well, PA players have indeed won multiple tournaments by guesting with other teams, does that count? ;)
I'm definitely not trying to knock that team. To be clear our team is nowhere in this conversation and we sit literally hundreds of slots further down on YSR. I just think a sweeping statement like "basically everything" would need to include recent league results, State Cups, and the Slammers tourney in which all their Flight 1 teams play (i.e. Players Cup Challenge), etc.

So, qualifying round is over and the match ups for the next round of 16 are set.
Lots of great games have been played, lots of close results and as always a few upsets. Unfortunately the biggest victim of bracket play was none other than the back to back State Cup winner Eagles. Certainly a difficult weekend for them but they will soon back to be their dominant self.
Other big names not to qualify were Slammers TD and Team USA.

That said, these are the matches for next week:

Kick ball caught up to another eagles team?
The 09 Eagles team has never played kickball. They are a good group of girls who play a good game of soccer. They had a tough weekend. It happens.
it makes you sound small and bitter to talk about any team like that. Especially a team that won two years back to back. People are waiting for them to lose.
my guess is your team has lost to them.

Of course, I was one of the ones that picked the Eagles to be there later in the tournament so I am going to speak for the Eagles against this low blow. (and NO! I am not affiliated with the Eagles.)

In one of the Eagles games, the opponent's defender literally grabbed a ball that was heading towards the net. Ref's call? Play on! If the right call, and a subsequent PK was made, then the Eagles would be playing again next weekend. And you would not have been able to leave this low blow message anonymously.

I have no doubt that there were 10 similar plays/calls throughout the weekend that separated teams coming in 1st place, 2nd place, and going home. It is just the nature of the beast. I honestly spent the whole year thanking as many refs as I can after games. I have to admit, I had a hard time holding in my frustrations this weekend. I know it is a tough job. But I think a little more diligence (too many refs watch the action from far away), guts (I know we don't want them deciding the game, but just make an obvious call), and communication (signal and communicate what the call was. Most sidelines have a Spanish translator so we can go bilingual. My team can do seven languages.) would make a big difference.

Based on what I see, the difference between the teams were small and are getting smaller. Even in one of the games that I watched, you look at the final score and you'd think it was a blow out. Well, in actuality, it was a 3-2 game until about the last 12 minutes.

Lots of good teams and great players playing good soccer this past weekend. I can't wait for the next weekend. I hope everyone brings their A game so more good soccer happens.

A flip side to this however was some of the Eagles - RSC PA II game I saw which ended in a draw.

Eagles keeper came out to make a play with her hands and it got past her. The RSC attacker had a wide open net and point blank look, but it went wide. Had that gone in RSC would have edged out Albion for the second slot in Group AB.

Then again, if that handball was in that same game, this sounds like a perfect karmic cancellation haha.

We have been playing against the Eagles the past 4 years and they have always played good soccer. I don't know where the kick ball statement is coming from. They have a very good team and it is always a battle when we play them. The parents have been great too....

The most interesting game of the second round is without a doubt Legends - Blues.
I give the nod to Legends not just for this game but also for the rest of the tournament, at least all the way to the final . Either Cruz or PA will be the other team.
For this round I see going through:
Rebels
Liverpool
Legends
SD Force
Cruz
Pa
Fortes
LAGSB

Best take in a long time @lovelygoal. I was just thinking about the golf club membership I cancelled in Temecula 7 years ago because I couldn;t afford both club soccer and golf club memberships. Plus, watching my goat play on the weeknds was funner than playing golf with my boring buddies who cheated when we played skins. My handicap is no more. However, I think my dd will get a D1 deal but I'm so desperate now I will take D2, D3 or NAIA for that matter. After my dd retires, I'm moving to Indio, CA so I can get my golf club membership back. Most dads I know can do both and I'm happy for them :)

When losers lose a game in soccer, they usually go to the "At least we played the game right. Ya, you won but you play kickball." So disrespectful IMHO. Or, "all your coach does is recruit." How about, "congrats on a job well done."

Mr. Venantsyo, BYSC, Blues, Beach, OC Surf, Blues Vaught, LAGSD, and Albion are on line 1. They would like to have a word with you.

I asked what the meeting was about and they said something like "When all you did was look at a web page and picked the teams with higher ratings between the two, we can do that on our own. Thank you." Should I put them through?

Also your own coach is on line 2. He would like to meet for a coffee today. Should I take your 3 PM slot?

CRL automatic bids on the line for Saturday games (quarterfinalists automatically qualify). CRL play-in is not going to be a shoe-in with the likes of Blues/Legends, SD Surf, Eagles having to win a spot.

That’s the most critical aspect of those games. CRL play in is also not cheap as far as I know, so the outcome of the round of 16 has also a financial meaning for the teams.
How many spots are open overall for CRL?
