National Cup - 04s - Tech Specs

We actually did have a goalie, completely new to the position, and to club soccer. By the 5th game or so, after 3 straight games giving up 7 goals, the coach could see that it wasn't working out, and I think was worried about the rest of the girls becoming demoralized. So he benched the keeper, and went to a rotation of field players. The team picked up after that.

Sigh ... being a keeper is hard, and finding a good experienced one is hard too.

That's a team with a huge turnaround from where they were last May to where they are now. I thought maybe you got some new field players too. Either way congrats to your great showing at National Cup so far.

Thanks for the fantastic analysis!

Tech Specs. (Part 6 of 6)

Well there you have it, somehow @LASTMAN14 and @Kicker4Life pushed me to the finish line for the 05 and 04 Tech. Specs. Must be something in the water in the South Bay. I expect a Jack & Coke out at National Cup waiting me as I now sit back and watch my DD's do their thing.

I will be drastically cutting back on doing this much work or so I keep telling myself. Next year is going to be an absolute nightmare with all the leagues and tracking the teams.

I'll do another analysis for all the rounds and finish it out like I always do. Even though my 04 has a BYE, we'll be out there at Silverlakes with my 05 tomorrow and plan on catching an afternoon game or two. Best of luck to all, come by and introduce yourselves if we haven't yet met and if we have have come by and say hello to an 'ol friend. Most likely rocking the Goats FC shirt tomorrow for good luck, and my DD will be rocking the keeper bun mohawk as an ode to a good friend who will be missed out in the So Cal Soccer Scene. Love ya KeeperMegs and @Keeper pops !

Best of luck everyone, have fun, stay safe, and cheer those kids on and enjoy the journey![/QUOTE

Gonna be some great games this weekend! Groups B and D are Top to Bottom the toughest groups in the 2nd Round....

Group A:
2 clear front runners in Surf and Slammers. Can Westside continue their Cinderella?

Group B:
A razor thin margin between each one of these teams. Every goal and every point will mean something in this group. Just think the teams that advance get the top 2 from Group C.

Group C:
Another group with 2 clear front runners. Arsenal and RSC will battle it out for group supremacy.

Group D:
Pack your band aides and ice packs cause there will be some battles in this group. You have to give LADSD the edge overall but each one of the teams in this group can play!

Good luck to all this weekend....grab a good vantage point and keep your head on a swivle cause there will be a lot of great games!!!!

Let's hear from the forum.....picks, predictions, what your looking forward to, etc.....let's have some fun!!!

My DD's team is in Group D and I'd say that LAGSB is the clear favorite.. I'd say they are one of the most talented, best coached and deepest squads in the age group. Group D(stands for death) is the toughest with Group A being right there(Surf and CDA are very tough).. I think C looks the lightest with Arsenal being a very good team but the rest of the group not at their level. There isn't a slouch in the 16 and anything can happen.

If Westside is going to continue their run it will have to start right off the bat against Surf. If they can get points in that game going into their match up with Legends they have a shot. Legends has been playing well but the pace that CDA and Surf bring might be too much for them.

Group B is a very close one but on paper Beach and Strikers are the favorites. No room for error for IE Surf and Blues Dido if they intend to challenge either team to advance.

In Group C both Arsenal and RSC should walk through this group. I do think that Rangers has a shot at disrupting both teams if they can dictate their style of play in the midfield. Rangers has played Arsenal close before, although Arsenal was short a few players.

Group D is really up for grabs, anyone of the teams can advance. Definitely my pick for the "Group of Death".

Funny stuff. What makes them the CLEAR favorite? Good luck if you are serious.

My daughters team has played both Kale and LAGSB multiple times and of the 3 clubs I know well, I believe that LAGSB is the best team by a bit... Why would you say it's "funny"? My dd's team has played most of these teams and I'd rank them: Surf, LAGSB, Arsenal, Beach.. I'd say the seeding on the top 4 are pretty spot on.

My top 4 teams are Surf, Arsenal, Macias and RSC.

Interestingly, because of the way they are grouped this round--these teams won't play each other in the round of 8 and therefore all four could make it to the Semifinal.

I guess I should've read more of your posts.. Your dd plays for MD so that's why not picking LAGSD is "funny". My dd plays for DS and just being objective, my prediction was based on what I saw on the field all season. LAGSD playing in the CSL limited my exposure to them.

I would say it is just limited exposure...but everyone is entitled to their opinion. LAGSB is a strong team when they have all their pieces in place. "Clear favorite" may be a bit of a stretch.

Not sure what "limited exposure" means when your dd has played 12 of the 16 teams in the field.. The only teams they haven't played in the final 16: LAGSD, Westside, Arsenal SD & Arsenal FC.

Cut through the niceties :
Limited exposure- As a WCFC parent you are not in CRL and haven't played these teams repeatedly. If you had been you would know the razor thin margins and weaknesses/strengths of all the three others in the bracket. I assume you feel that your exposure to Blues and LAGSB in league means something? The teams are different now- very different which if you had been in CRL you would have seen.
WCFC is primarily who it is because of the second most talented keeper in the age group- nothing more nothing less.
I am not going to take the time to run through my personal observations but is extremely clear to me who the deciding factor will be this weekend. I also think it's clear to everyone else hence the crickets on the forum.
For what it's worth though I can agree with you on the fact that they style of LAGSB is clean and #10 and #4 on that team are fun to watch. I do hope that they move on.

Best descriptor I have seen, esp about D. People should be worried about injuries. I hope that the referees promote the game of soccer this weekend and don't let the games get out of control.
Wishing a successful and HEALTHY weekend for all the girls.

That's a lot to unpack.. So the CRL is far superior to the SCDSL and the only reason WCFC is 'good' is due to our gk? Needless to say, I completely disagree with your opinion, which is fine and I'm guessing you've never watched this team play. I'll go along with the reality that debating you on this would be like pissing in the wind, as you know so much about everything.

In regards to Group D I say it's LAGSD & any one of the remaining 3 teams. WC is a solid, well coached team and has just as mich chance as LAGSB AND Kale. Good luck to all of the ladies playing this weekend.

Someone is actually potentially arguing that SCSDL is comparable to CRL.
There is not enough coffee in the world for me to address this on a Friday.
The DA cannot come fast enough

I don't think anybody would believe LAGSB is not a top team. They certainly are. What is funny is that you believe they would be the "clear" favorite but then again everybody is entitled to an opinion. Not sure how you make that comment if you haven't seen all the teams in your group play. By the way, against your top "4" a certain team is 3-2-1. They have also outscored LAGSB 3-1 this year. Again, not sure how you can think there is a "clear" favorite. None of these teams are the same from earlier this season. The games should all be very close and very entertaining. Looking forward to seeing you all out there.
And for the record any of the SCDSL divisions were not as competitive top to bottom as CRL.

We've played LAGSB and Blues Kale multiple times and have many friends at Blues(both teams) and the general consensus amongst this group is that LAGSB has the most tools in the toolbox(in this group). This is also coming from people that have experience against all 3 teams in our group.. that said, I'd agree 100% that this group is wide open and the one group that no-one would be surprised if team XXXX won it. Who's on and who doesn't have injuries will decide this group.

The comment on SCDSL vs. CRL was in response to the condescending comment from ESPNANALYST. I'm not arguing, nor did I say, that the SCDSL was superior but discounting a division w: Surf x2 , Blues x2, Strikers, Slammers and WCFC(one trick pony that they are, lol) was a bit silly.
