Unions dramatically drive up the cost of housing in California by suing (aka extorting) developers under the environmental rules of CEQA. Unions don't give a shit about the environment, but agree to drop their lawsuits against developers in exchange for the developers hiring union labor, paying prevailing wage and/or forcing Project Labor Agreements (PLA's) on the developer. Here is how it works:
