Any opinions on Albions Los Angeles group and whether its worth making the move? With most of their past EA now moved to MLSN2 is there EA just a new Flight 1?

The issue with EA is that SoCal Elite was not given a promotion to MLS2. Quite a few other clubs were given a promotion from EA2. So it's going to lead to a very disbalanced league where some teams will be incredibly strong, and some teams will be a mess.

Albion LA is also in a bit of a turmoil since it's in the process of this marriage with the former SM Surf and some of the higher level teams getting moved over there. None of the greater LA Albion clubs right now are exactly stable until things get settled down. My opinion is one or the other isn't going to exist in the current form right now, and given the high fees, there just isn't the financial base for Albion LA to have 3 levels of competition, some duplicative with SM Albion.

Thanks for the response and opinion. I'm just trying to figure out how to best help my son climb this broken rung ladder of youth soccer. He's excited he made the EA cut but now I'm wondering if it's diluted and if he should just stay with his recently elevated to EA2 team and, whether that teams talent will elevate now that they are EA2. My older kid was a swimmer so it was cut and dry. To make Jr Olympics/Age Groups/CIF you needed to make the time and that's it. This soccer thing is just too layered.

I'm not sure how old your son is, but my child recently attended a tryout that was initially advertised as MLS Next, but it was later referred to as MLS Next 2 once we arrived. A friend of mine had registered their son to attend, but he ended up not going because of the rain. Long story short, my child was offered a spot to register with the MLS Next 2 team, and so was my friend's son, even though he never showed up. I found that a bit strange. I don't want to speak negatively about the club since we’ve never been part of it and don’t intend to, but it seems like they’re really eager to form a team. They were asking for $3,500.00 for the season.

Sounds like a “bargain”
Our fees for social play with Albion are $3100

with travel your 3500 x 3.
if they treat mls next next like its bigger brother .
your fees will be 12-15k if you travel to all the games and tournaments.
I don't believe the teams will cover any cost so imagine flights and hotel cost for your kid

fest
flex
gacup
playoffs
that's minimum 12k just those 4 tournaments plus your 3500 registration

Wowers

I did see mlsn2 games will be limited to SoCal for league games

Same experience. I found it a bit of a bait and switch.

My son's friend also was just recruited by "MLSNext" team as their "top" striker. Last year he played for an AYSO Extra team which is completely fine but he was an average player.
I think most MLS NEXT 2 teams are desperately looking for players for their first season.

I'm actually a bit confused. Are these basically EA league re-named as MLS Next 2?
It was clearly stated by MLS Next website that it is "managed by EA league" and players are eligible for high school games.
In a way it is better (less) travel and practice commitments but again, what would be the difference with current EA league? Hopefully no fee increase. OP said $3500, I agree it is a bargain for orange county.

From what I have read clubs with ea and mlsnext will be bumping their ea teams into the mlsn2 spot.
Guess that means ea2 slides to ea.
