USWNT: Alex Morgan Lef Off The USA Olympics Soccer Team

I am good with this. We need some younger players in the mix. Congrats to Alex on a wonderful career.

What do you all think?

Awe, very bitter sweet. But I do agree, it’s time for the new blood to start taking over.

US Women NT is currently ranked #5 by FIFA, the lowest they have been since WWC was started in 1991.

It's unrealistic to think our women's team is going to be dominant forever. At some point other countries were going to catch us.

There's definitely a transition taking place but to expect to make the final every tournament is arrogant.

Alex seems like a very good person and she's made the most of her celebrity both on and off the pitch. As I've stated on this forum for years, however, the game has passed her by. She shouldn't have been on the last WC team either. Her lacking performance proved that. But, every little girl and her newbie soccer parents know and love Alex, so Nike, the Wave, and other sponsors keep her career going well past its expiration date. I don't blame her though - if she can continue to make millions with smoke and mirrors, and a soccer culture that values identities over winning, then good on her. All athletes face the same fading light at the end of their careers, hers is no different. My guess is that the Wave and Nike prop her up for one more year of pro soccer and hope to squeeze every last penny from moms and dads on a "farewell tour" that continues to expose her dwindling soccer ability. Like Caitlin Clark, Alex puts people in stadiums. But unlike Clark, she doesn't have the talent now, and has no future potential.

And btw, we shouldn't coddle female athletes just because they're women. They are pros, just like the men, and we shouldn't feel guilty or hesitant to criticize them just the same as when we feel a male athlete is hanging on much longer than they should.

I wish her the best. She did a lot for the game - more off the field than on. I hope she can find as much joy in her next life chapter.

It was rough watching Morgan last night vs Red Stars. Just doesn't have that fire in her anymore. Probably 85% of the game was solidly in the Waves attacking third; at least 25 solid attacks. Finishing was sloppy, weak, and off frame; Morgan, Shaw, Sanchez as the attacking line. They subbed Mel B in at about the 75 min mark, and she immediately fired up the attack, with multiple solid Shots on Goal. Got a PK out of one, and Morgon put it 6 feet over the crossbar.?????. Sanchez looked lost the entire game. Wave Lost 0-3. Morgan has overstayed her pro career. If I was the interim Wave Coach I would bench that entire Attacking Line, and start Barcenas and Ali.

Agree Sanchez is another one that is pumped up way more than her talent level and they paid a bunch to get her. Barcenas doesn't have the sprinting speed nor size to play forward. Passing may be her best attribute, but again, she doesn't have the size/strength to defensively battle inside with the bigger and better 6,8,10s. She's no Marta. She'll get her chances, but could be another example of identifying the next great player way too early. At some point, age and inexperience can no longer be used as an excuse. I put a lot of the Wave's woes on Jill Ellis. A lot of poor acquisitions. But, I have to admit not watching much NWSL. The quality of soccer is just so poor, especially compared to the highest levels of the men's game. I know every game I watch in Copa America or Euros, I'm going to see something that impresses. Same if I watch WNBA. Not the NWSL, unfortunately. Their games are best for inspiring a nap.

I’ve been impressed with the women’s pro league in England.

Then you've made a strong case for Alex to be on USMNT!!!! 🤣 💩

That right there! I love Caitlyn Clark but I think she's being coddled by some in the media and some of these "new" WNBA bandwagon fans. I guarantee she doesn't want the coddling nor do any of the other female athletes. I definitely don't coddle my DD.
