Alex seems like a very good person and she's made the most of her celebrity both on and off the pitch. As I've stated on this forum for years, however, the game has passed her by. She shouldn't have been on the last WC team either. Her lacking performance proved that. But, every little girl and her newbie soccer parents know and love Alex, so Nike, the Wave, and other sponsors keep her career going well past its expiration date. I don't blame her though - if she can continue to make millions with smoke and mirrors, and a soccer culture that values identities over winning, then good on her. All athletes face the same fading light at the end of their careers, hers is no different. My guess is that the Wave and Nike prop her up for one more year of pro soccer and hope to squeeze every last penny from moms and dads on a "farewell tour" that continues to expose her dwindling soccer ability. Like Caitlin Clark, Alex puts people in stadiums. But unlike Clark, she doesn't have the talent now, and has no future potential.
And btw, we shouldn't coddle female athletes just because they're women. They are pros, just like the men, and we shouldn't feel guilty or hesitant to criticize them just the same as when we feel a male athlete is hanging on much longer than they should.
I wish her the best. She did a lot for the game - more off the field than on. I hope she can find as much joy in her next life chapter.
