I would like to see a Champions League created to name the true National Champion of the various leagues. It would be great to finally settle the debate between the ECNL, GA, DPL, Discovery, etc. Does anyone think this will ever happen?

None of those entities will risk losing their claim to be the best.

Already set-up and presented by the SOCAL league for all competitions beginning 2022 season. Format and qualifiers, by league, were presented at the last SOCAL DOC meeting and approved by membership. It will be played over 2 weekends in August 2023 and will include both boys and girls leagues. Could possibly include teams from NorCal and the new AZ league too. SOCAL is in the very unique position to make this happen given that many of its members are part of all of these leagues in order to get everyone's buy in for this. It will also include Discovery NPL teams and State Cup Champions that will qualify into the Champions League too.

This is fantastic news. No more ECNL “champs” hiding from the competition.

I've officiated a handful of cross league 'scrimmages'
I've seen DA teams back out, and ENCL teams back out for legit reasons. In fact, the DA teams backed out more often but it was always a concern over the perception vs. their rules.

I dont' think the players give a crap what badge is ironed onto their sleeve and at that level, "champs", most are pretty confident in their abilities and happy to compete against what they percieve as real competition.
The different leagues care and by default the clubs have to care.
