Poll: Are you in favor of ECNL 2-game weekends

Should ECNL continue to play 2-game weekends?

  • No. Besides AZ weekends, all other weekends should have 1 game, even if that means lowering game #

I think this issue should be #1 for the ECNL club leaders to discuss. Except for the AZ weekends, should we continue to have 2-game weekends next Fall and Spring. IMO, eliminate playing the clubs in your division 2x, play every team in the SW conference 1x, that's 16 games. 8 weeks/games in the Fall and 8 games in the Spring + showcase weekends and any other independent tournaments is plenty of soccer for high school aged players. But that's just me, and next year will be the last for my family. So, please vote your opinion. Thanks!

I voted Canada. Great poll btw. I say have 16 teams in the SW Conference with two divisions of 8 teams. Play each team twice in your division and one game against other division. Regarding AZ games, I would play Friday mid morning and then Sunday morning. Allow to roster 20 for the road. One game on Saturday and some games during the week. 22 games can be done, right? Top four teams in each division and make Socal Playoffs. Nocal Champ vs Socal Champ and go play in Florida for the Super Conference Championship. The losers have to cough up the travel costs and hotel cost for each Super Conference Champion. Drop the Regional League as well. I would also drop the boys. Girls only and truly Elite soccer League. I would also open a clear pro pathway here in the states ((without shaming or making fun of girls who would rather just play soccer and not have to worry about their grades and SAT, Honors and AP)) and other opportunities over seas. If you look at all the top rosters in college, they all got euro players. ECNL still has got a good brand name but it's getting watered down.

I completely support NO two game weekends. But, I think the problem would be for the AZ and NV teams though. They would almost always be playing two games a weekend on the road for cost reasons, and it would put them at a competitive disadvantage.

I'm all for playing 1 game against 16 teams in the SouthWest conf as oh canada says. Between ECNL AZ and ECNL Seattle (approximately 12 week) my DDs team plays approximately 24 games with travel to NJ and Seattle. If you ask many ECNL coaches privately, they'll tell you that the # of games played in a season is way over the top. In most other countries, they only play max 1x per week. Particularly at and over U15 for girls, the playing load is very high playing 2 game weekends or 3 game showcases. I would like to do another poll about how many big injuries your team has incurred in the past 2 years (U15-U17). Many factors contribute to this, but certainly overloading games is one.

Ix per week with a scrimmage or friendly occasionally during the week seems a bout right. The injuries the last two years has been alarming. It seems like every week someone new is getting hurt. My dd played HSS and club and it's just too much on these girls. She dodged serious injury so far but did get hurt the last two years. Broker her wrist, her foot and her knee. I tore my ACL playing hoops everyday. As I write this and just think for 10 seconds, I can count 7 girls I know that had ACL surgery. This is all 03,04 and 05. One dad told me his dd knee is even stronger then it was before she tore acl. I also know of a few girls who broke their ankles really bad and never got their speed back and a lot with head concussions. I know of only one girl who was told to stop heading the ball.

Very good point, but everyone is overlooking .
I guess AZ and Vegas should just be happy to play in the same league right. We would either travel twice as much or just our teams play 2 games a weekend.

Give us more games. Make things bigger and better. The kids can handle it.

It’s working btw guys. Definitely.

It depends on the age. The young ones can play multiple games every weekend and be just fine. But U16 - U19 ECNL is so competitive that injuries are going to happen. There is no sane reason that these ages should be playing multiple weekend games. There is a reason that ACL injuries have become so common nowdays versus many years ago.
