CRL, an opportunity for teams from different leagues across SoCal to compete against one another during 2016-2017 and test themselves in a league format that is essentially winner take all. This year the 12 teams slated to compete are of the highest to above average level, making for some interesting match ups, that will give us insight to competition and progression throughout the season. This thread will serve as the place holder for all things CRL and I will post the highlighted match ups for the scheduled weekends and we can all post scores / highlights / thoughts / comments. Let’s take a look at an overview of this season of CRL for the 05s.

Team Breakdowns
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 2nd in Group C (W 2-1 Albion, W 2-0 FC Golden State, L 0-2 LA Galaxy - SD)
Notes: Surf has a history of having a deep talent pool and having “B” teams shine on the big stage amongst the bigs. This team is no different and they have had respectable showings early on in this young season. I believe they will continue to do so in CRL.
League: CSL – Silver Elite South
Qualified for CRL: 2nd in Group D (L 0-2 SC Blues – Kale, W 4-2 FRAM, D 1-1 Oceanside Breakers)
Notes: A team with a returning core in the middle, IE Surf 05s is trying to follow in the 04s footsteps and make a name for themselves but on their own terms. Relatively new squad as a whole, but with potential. CRL will give this squad the opportunity to play some tough SCDSL competition.
League: CSL – Silver Elite South
Qualified for CRL: 1st in Group C (W 3-0 FC Golden State, W 4-1 Albion, W 2-0 Surf Academy)
Notes: Galaxy SD quietly took care of business in Play In and is flying under the radar, but they’re a team to definitely watch out for.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 2nd in Group B (L 1-5 Surf - EGSL, W 3-0 Legends - South, D 0-0 Arsenal - SD)
Notes: Beach took a lot of heat for losing to Surf in Play In by such a big margin, but let’s be honest Surf is one of the top teams in this age group and can do that to any one of the other top 05 teams on any given day. So, what now? Beach FC will go along their business and Perez will have his girls ready to put in work and put that big loss in the rearview, you can bank on it. Don’t sleep on Beach.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 3rd in Group A (W 1-0 LA Galaxy – SD II, L 0-4 LA Galaxy - SB, L 0-1 Legends)
Notes: Murrieta is one of those teams making the jump to the big ring and will take their lumps and bruises but will also prove to be a formidable opponent in this season of CRL.
League: CSL – Silver Elite South
Qualified for CRL: 3rd in Group C (L 0-3 LA Galaxy – SD, L 0-2 Surf Academy, W 1-0 Albion)
Notes: FC Golden State is making a concerted effort to play in the big tournaments and big leagues, CRL being the focal point. They benefited from the format to win a spot and just snuck in, but now they’ll have to face some tough competition.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 1st in Group D (W 2-0 IE Surf, W 2-0 Oceanside Breakers, W 6-0 FRAM)
Notes: Blues Kale 05s are a legitimate favorite to end up in the top 3 of the CRL standings. They are athletic and one of the bigger teams in the age group. Their intensity will overwhelm many teams.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 3rd in Group B (W 2-0 Arsenal – SD, L 0-3 Beach FC – LB, L 0-7 Surf)
Notes: Legends South has a hill to climb in CRL and are going to need some perfect games to get even decent results.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 1st in Group B (W 5-1 Beach FC – LB, W 4-0 Arsenal – SD, W 7-0 Legends – South)
Notes: Along with Galaxy – SB, Surf are the favorites to win CRL in my opinion. Surf is methodical and plays the ball very fast with a good touch. Teams will need to throw everything imaginable at them to have a shot.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 2nd in Group A (L 0-2 LA Galaxy – SB, W 1-0 LA Galaxy – SD II, W 1-0 Murrieta Surf)
Notes: Matt Evans 05 squad was primarily 06s last season and this year he has had to do some rebuilding but the coach known for being one the best skill trainers at Legends has taken a couple of younger teams and is looking to make them top teams.
League: SDDA
Qualified for CRL: 3rd in Group D (D 1-1 FRAM, L 0-2 SC Blues – Kale, D 1-1 IE Surf)
Notes: Oceanside knows the game they want to play and if they’re backline can play the long ball, they do a decent job of pinning teams in and attempting to wear them down.
League: SCDSL
Qualified for CRL: 1st in Group A (W 2-0 Legends, W 4-0 Murrieta Surf, W 4-0 LA Galaxy – SD II)
Notes: Of the big beneficiaries of the age shift and have inherited some talented players to put together a team that plays possession and can hang with even the most athletic teams. Galaxy – SB is scary good and they’re just getting started.
