Summer of Not?

Is it just me - or is this the strangest summer for player attendance?
Seems that every week at least some players are on vacation, away at camp, visiting grandma, etc.
Years past felt like it was a bit more concentrated and easier to schedule around.

How are teams doing with their rosters for tournaments? Is it more guests than usual?

I can only speak for my daughter's team. We haven't had to have any guest, but 2 tournaments have already been played so far with 1 sub.

Pent up vacation demand, also a much tighter vacation window this summer with school going longer into June and starting earlier ( mid August)

we knew our tournament schedule in late March, we scheduled our vacations around it, but many parents didn't

That's what you get when coaching an older team. Just facts of the age group. Trust me - its doesn't matter Summer or not, or this year or next, unless you have fully dedicated high level competitive team.

1000%....... so many vacations having been unable to travel previously.....then injuries with no time between seasons due to things being so compressed schedule wise......lot of short benches and guests all over the fields at Surf Cup...... we had a lot of friends complaining about it but ultimately happy to be playing.....

on a related note....... 5 games in 2 days for finalists at West Coast Classic Tournament back in the day was the ultimate in crazy...... is that still going on?

Funny, parents on the team were just having this conversation yesterday. Usually have 17 girls on team and we’re down to 13 for last tournament. Had some girls miss Friday game since they are back in school. Also, people are trying to cram 2 years of summer vacations into one summer.

Even my younger kid's team is having similar issues. But yeah- If they aren't looking to play in college- Those juniors and seniors in HS are hard to find.

I just drove by those fields off 73 just now. I still remember that tournament back when it was 100 summer heat at 8am. We tried to win it but didnt make it out of group for the first time like ever bro. Not one kid was sad that day for losing. We all went to the beach while the "winners" of the tournament had to play two more games.

Jr and Sr is getting a very rude awaking of the reality of spots taken and has to look at the sacrifice vs the reward. D2 or D3 is looking awesome. Look, most of our kids would be sitting anyways in normal life. Today's life, it's rough and that is understatement. I just looked at one roster that has 44 kids and only 3 Seniors and another with 42. Some only 26 and seats are taken for 2022. Anyway, this is good in one sense. Most Jr and Sr still hanging around probably really enjoy the game still. My dd and I had a very tough talk about soccer and how fast it can go away. Injuries can take you out. I keep hearing about this Sr or Jr tearing her ACL or concussion with a whiplash. Dangerous to say the least. Time to re-group and be patient.

- Vacations, Covid infections, and just disinterest in youth sports. The tide is turning. Kids discovered that is so much easier to do nothing all day. LOL

the issue with vacations and covid is they still on their phones the whole time lol.......whether it is soccer basketball or volleyball keeping them in physical team activity is still important and fulfilling imo....mine love to compete which helps......
