TOP 10 GU 2010

SD Surf won their group at Surf Cup, finishing ahead of Heat and Albion, then lost 2-0 to Blues in the semi. At Blues Cup they beat Phoenix Rising 1-0, tied OC Galaxy, and lost to Blues 5-0. That’s a pretty good showing over the summer.

My bad it was Man City...4-2 over Academy (Brookfield) and their Select team was there as well...if you're referring to the Select team maybe they are top 10...haven't seen them play.

I'd say this list is pretty accurate, although I think Slammers PA is too high. They just tied Galaxy, and got smoked by Legends. I'd group Slammers PA/OC Surf/Galaxy in the same cluster. OC Surf beat SD Surf in Surf Cup pretty handily so I'm not sure I'd even have them in top 10.

Is EDA an actual team, in an actual league?

Yeah I'd agree on Slammers PA, although to be fair I've never seen them play. I wasn't sure why they'd been placed up relatively high when they really hadn't played anyone. Also OC Surf didn't play SD Surf in Surf Cup. Surf actually performed pretty well in Surf Cup, beating Albion and Heat FC, as well as holding Blues to 2 goals in the Semi. OC Surf didn't win a single game, although in hindsight they were in a really tough group. I think SD Surf belongs in the top 10 conversation somewhere, as should LAG OC in my opinion. They're a solid team with a couple of stand out players.

Yes EDA (formerly La Mirada FC) is a team that plays in CSL South, where they're undefeated but really don't have any competition. https://coastsoccer.us/web/coastsoc...9&SEASON=fall&BRACKET=SS&Send+Form=Standings! At West Coast Classic they beat OC Surf 3-1 in pool play but lost to SDSC 6-1 in the Final. Like Slammers PA, I think we need to see more matchups with other teams on list to have a better idea of where they stand. I think the same can be said for Ole to some extent, who's really only played Eagles. Yes they've managed a couple solid results against Eagles, but results against just one team really doesn't tell the whole story.

Surf OC beat ISC Gunners (WA) in Surf Cup, but you're right their bracket was pretty brutal with Texans and MVLA.

Ole is the grittiest/scrappiest team I've seen play by far. Even against the top 3, they'll keep the game close.

Legends to me have improved the most from last season. They are without question #4.

Keep in mind that some of these teams are far more results oriented than others. Some of these coaches care only about development and are having girls play multiple positions during the game, have bench players play nearly as much as starters. etc. For example, the Blues aren't 8-10 goals better talent-wise than anyone on this list. I give SDSC a ton of credit because they play their game no matter the results...

I agree Legends should be #4. Legends was a good team last year and well-coached and you could tell they were only going to get better.

Good point about teams being results-oriented. Some coaches will play their bench players as much as their starters even if there is a big drop-off in talent and this often affects the game outcome.

Absolutely legends is without doubt #4. My buddy told me legends lost 3-1 to SDSC last weekend and it was 1-1 at half and legends missed many clear scoring chances. He and the SDSC coach said the game was amazing and “SDSC complimented the legends team on being the most organized team he’s seen in the age division and that his forwards are very special players. He thinks that both legends and SDSC are clearly top 2 for the upcoming year.” I agree league results don’t really matter though for SCDSL so I think some coaches don’t care and play everyone in every game since there are no standings. I know legends will be silverlakes thanksgiving and also Vegas cup in March. This weekend should be a fun one I will actually get to watch th

I think this tier structure is pretty accurate...and like you said depending on a bounce or break any tier team can beat each other on any given weekend.

Found a nice little highlight clip between the Blues and Eagles at Blues cup 2019. It’s a public video. So I’m assuming it’s shareable. #10 on Blues dribbles right through the Eagles cb and scores. Is this their best player? I’m assuming since she’s wearing the #10 jersey and looks big and dribbles pretty good for her size.

lots of ball watching on defense.

Certainly room for improvement from both teams. But, everyone on this thread would say these are two of the top three teams. Do you have an example of a 2010 team that doesn’t ball watch? SDSC?

These kids are 9. Every team has players that will periodically ball watch, dive in, panic kick, etc.

I know the top 3 teams play a different style of defense with formation.

Blues normally has 3 defenders and 3 mid/forward. To me they seem like a traditional counter team. 3-3 formation

Eagles normally plays 2 defenders and with 2 mid 2 forwards. 2-2-2 formation. A great group of players around.

SDSC normally plays 1 Defender, 3 mids, 2 forwards. 1-3-2 formation and plays fundamentally soccer etc

All teams are dangerous off set plays and can strike the ball near the build out line.

SDSC Must have a lot of confidence on that 1 defender. And expect the 3 mids to take the ball away. But I’m sure the 3 drop back to help. Having 4 players defending below the build out line

All mids for all teams drop back and help for sure. The Better teams will and should adjust based on who they are playing. Each team has their strengths and weaknesses and it’s pretty obvious to recognize.

Another thing worth noting is that these highlight videos that George creates from the full match video are usually just showing certain shots on target and all the goals. When goals are being scored there's often a mistake being made somewhere. So these highlights tend to amplify the mistakes and not show all the other good soccer that was played throughout the match.

@Goforgoal

Sorry about the ball watching comment. It was only a subjective observation and not a jab at your DD if she was the one in the video.

Nope. I don't have a kid in the video, and there's nothing to be sorry about. My reply wasn't really directed at you anyways, as I know you're mostly here to try and trigger Luis.

Legends 1, Blues 0. Here’s what I heard... someone who was there can clarify if any of this is off.

No real chances during 1st half, it was very even. Blues turned up pressure in 2nd half and had some chances early. Legends scored on a free kick with about 3 minutes left. Legends had 0 shots during run of play, but had 6-7 free kicks in dangerous positions. All in all even game other than the first few minutes of 2nd half. Legends showed they can play with anyone.

I’ll be posting more later. Legends definitely had the set piece chances getting fouled on 1v1 and breakaways. Very even first half no clear chances except for a few free kicks from legends. Ball was mainly in blues defensive half from minute 5-25. second half blues came out strong and had a couple good chances with one outside shot hitting the crossbar. After the first 13 min going more back and forth in the middle legends started creating chances and getting fouled for set pieces and one led to the goal with about 5 min left. Legends also played most of the second half with one of their top forward out. (Apparently sock with the flu). All in all legends wins and again proves they are the real deal now.

The most impressive part of that win is holding the Blues to 0. I can see them moving up to Tier 1 in no time if they keep this streak against the Tier 1 teams. The qualification to move into Tier 1 should be that the team needs to have beat each of the 3 teams at least once, all future games should be competitive and they should have at least 1 big major tournament under their belt.

Absolutely very impressive and again blues had 1 goal scoring chance early second half. Hit the crossbar. Other than that they were not dangerous. Their big #10 was outworked and ineffective the entire game and legends backs weren’t really challenged. Very good at stepping and closing down space and applying pressure. Having said that, again it was a competitive game. It wasn’t as if legends just walked all over blues. Legends just had the better defense and their attack was better today. People will say 0 shots in the run of play but legends was fouled every single time they broke the pressure and were going to goal which led to many free kicks. Blues goalie was by far the busier of the two I don’t recall but legends goalie making 1-2 routine saves rolling to her from 30 yard shots from blues. Blues goalie actually had 2-3 very very good saves. I think again top tier legends must be included. Lost to SDSC 3-1 and could’ve easily won that game. Beat blues now 1-0 with a shutout to blues and all their “offensive firepower”. And legends ties eagles 0-0 and lost in overtime in a tournament in July. So clearly they should be included up there. I’m excited to see state cup results when it comes around. I think legends will only continue developing. Legends hasn’t done blues cup or man city cup because they’re always in the silverlakes or local tournaments and I believe that’s because their coach has older teams that are doing showcases during those times. If you look he had his top team in blues cup so can assume that’s why his littles didn’t play in it. Also, his top team actually tied the #2 team in the nation. Clearly, the coach Shelton knows what he is doing over there in legends riverside With his older 02/01 team and has turned his littles team around and made them a top quality team In the state as well. Great stuff to him and legends riverside and his little legends 2010. Excited to continue to see their growth and hear about their results. Truly think they and SDSC are special teams for that age group.

Also, legends coach was sick and in a sling and let his girls play and didn’t even coach but maybe 2-3 times which shows the quality of his team that they are that sound already and have developed a soccer IQ and understand how to play and the coach has done his job developing them at practice and gets to actually sit back and enjoy watching his team play rather than being up and micro managing them for every little thing. Bright future ahead for them.

With all due respect and admiration you may have a case and I’m sold the the Legends team is for real but the one thing in common that all of the top 3 tier 1 teams have is that they have all beaten each other at least once in throughout the process and have won a major tournaments. While we can make the argument that Legends only does local tournaments they are yet to beat SDSC and until that occurs is when they should enter the Tier 1 status. Could happen soon. The discipline among the team as a whole is there and the coach seems to embrace it to their advantage

So my only question is. When is the last time eagles beat SDSC or blues. If it’s not within the past 3 months since June on then I don’t see it counting. Teams have reshaped for the new season and results from then on are all that matter. Eagles tied legends. Legends beat blues. Blues beat SDSC. SDSC beat blues. SDSC beat legends. Eagles haven’t beat them recently so again I throw legends in the top tier org confidence.
