First year for '05 DA discussion

Our coach doesn't have any issues with girls playing in middle school.

At least in Corona, the middle school level of play is pretty good. The best team could easily be a dominant flight 1 team. (Lots of DA players, Top Flight 1's and CSL Gold's.)

The main problem besides the questionable fields are the terrible ref's. But I can definitely see why some DA coaches would say no to middle school too.

I have two 04’s in DA that played two games of middle school and we were then told per US Soccer that is not allowed. Our coach pulled my girls aside and told them someone had informed US Soccer they were playing and they had to quit.

does that go for other sports like tennis or lax?

I looked at the rules on the academy website and it only refers to no other organized Soccer with the exception being futsal. I know of a few boys and girls academy players that were able to do baseball and volleyball in high school. Can be tough if your player is an honors student and has AP classes.

I had a brief conversation with one of our coaches about outside sports/PE and his take was if the kid is happy and enjoying playing other sports at this age, it's fine. He said the one thing he didn't want DD doing was playing middle school soccer. To me it sounded like he wanted to minimize the potential for injury, which I tend to agree with. (And yes, I also know she could get injured anywhere playing soccer or not.) At this point, HS is a year away and who knows if my kid will still be playing DA. If she is, the no HS thing doesn't bother me that much because my kid's school is college-prep focused and has a terrible sports program. But that's just us....

Ah yes..... Middle School Soccer. Probably the most painful soccer to watch cause you have the club players, the AYSO players, and the I don't know what I'm doing players. We're not going DA, but our coach told our girls if they do play middle school soccer, go at it 70%. And there were special rules for my daughter who's the goalie. Well, basically just 1 rule .... stay on her feet; no diving or sliding. I haven't show him the pictures yet......lol

it did not come from US soccer. US soccer did not have a restriction on HS this year. All those that were told no HS were told from their club. Straight poop I emailed them and they replied back

It depended on the age group you were in. I emailed IS Soccer directly and was told no middle school or high school for my 04s.

Do DA coaches also prohibit kids from riding bikes, riding a skateboard, diving in a swimming pool, walking barefoot in the house, climbing trees, going on a boat, going to Disneyland, fishing or walking around the mall with friends?

04 kids are 13 years old. Stop making them act like pros and let them be kids.

Soccer coaches recommend not playing soccer because soccer might get you hurt.

Could be a good title for a story in “The Onion”

i asked about the entire DA program. They said the first year (current) they could play HS. After this year they will reexamine. Just what my experience was

Nailed it!!! I find myself not being able to watch... so I phone diddle and drink my Starbucks. I was hoping it would be fun for my kid... but turns out getting beat 0-2 every game and having 4 girls on top of u is not that fun.

My DD was told not to participate and the main reason was concern about over training.

I am curious..are any other teams out there still practicing? We have 40 straight days off..started last week and they don’t come back until the end of July.

June is pretty common for clubs to go dark. At Pats DA for the 04s, our girls were given a week off after the end of season play, and are now back prepping for the Summer Showcase.

However 40 days is a pretty long period off, my youngest had 2 weeks. When both of my kids played at Legends they typically gave them 2-3 weeks off in June.

Albion gave our girls a week off earlier in the month, then they practices last week, we have this week off, then back to normal next week. They played So Cal Showcase last weekend, and have Albion Cup next month.

That's what I was thinking. Especially since we come back and have a showcase only a few days later. Gonna be some very out of shape ugly soccer games that weekend!

We have a summer schedule that includes the break. It has a week off and weeks on but limited sessions. Our girls won't go to a full practice schedule till the break is over.

Has anyone heard about Slammers (newport) leaving DA ? Are clubs leaving DA to go back to ECNL?

I saw on ECNL website that LAFC Slammers were "all in" with ECNL. Where dose that put Newport Slammers who were ECNL. Some please shed some light on this.

I think the assumption is that they will have two ECNL teams. I believe this is similar to some of the other "all in" ECNL clubs.

Scores/game reports can sometimes take days to upload onto the website. Anyone care to share the scores from their games this weekend?
