Everyone is so worried about winning.
It's easy to win at this age. I want to see which 2003 players are going to separate themselves from the rest. On Saturday you will see new growth from a lot of players and you will see no growth from the other half of players. It's crazy how fast some kids get better from one season to another.
 
Winning is great! Winning is development as long as it is possession based, playing out the back, etc.,

Unlike Lomeli's Milan kickball team, that even when they WIN they LOSE.

the Strikers have had a hard time filling out their 6 and 8 positions and providing a breather for their no. 10. They really need a few more mids that can win balls, do a few moves in the middle, and get it to their 7, 9, 10 and 11 and run with those four to be a passing option, or win second balls and cycle it back to their attacking quartet.

The Strikers had a fantastic center mid whose now on their 02 academy team who would play for the 03-02 team (instead of the 02-01 team he normally played for) in important games or tournaments to play this role. With the new age cutoff in DA, he can't do that anymore.

I'm sure Ganey will coach up someone on his roster to fill this role or eventually recruit a talented player to fill it.

I'm going to say that they over valued the new additions to the team. I think 3 of the 4 new players where playing flight 2 last year. During Academy tryouts there were few kids that came out. Most were from the second flight strikers team and only a handful of outsiders. The core kids are impact kids, but your only as strong as your weakest link.
Another thing that hurts the strikers is that players become specialized and are taught one maybe two positions, so when you need kids to play different positions it can hurt you at this level.
Just my 2 cents.

Good Coaches & Directors know how to balance winning and development.

If you're winning or losing all the time, things should change. Players moved up, sub players given more playing time, different things worked on, etc.

When there is too much focus on winning, development suffers. Plenty of players develop more rapidly on lesser teams because they work harder, have to do more, play more, differently, positions, have more freedom, less pressure, etc

There is no special formula or one size fitting all, each player develops differently so don't get too wrapped up in how their team is doing as opposed to the progress the player(s) are making.

Strikers FC 5 or more goals vs Arsenal.

Nomads SC vs Albion. Battle of the locals, give Albion the edge, more disciplined players vs the wild slide tacklers of Nomads. Cards could fly in this one.

Pats vs RSC, toss-up if they don't draw then Pats comes away with a W.

Galaxy vs GS, the most interesting matchup could go either way but i give Galaxy the edge in this early season showdown.
