2006 - ODP Player Pool

From what I've heard you guys are going to have a really strong team next year. Team stayed together and got a few new solid players. Good luck man ME is a great coach
I totally agree on ME he is a super cool guy. He is really great with the girls and they love playing for him. Think this is his third year with this team. It will be interesting to see all the moves that went on with the clubs this very short off season. I heard plenty of rumors the past 2 weekends hanging out in Ventura. Hope to get a game in soon to shake of our last lost to AS in the semis of State cup. Our girls really didn't play their game and it showed with a 2-1 loss. What team does you DD play for ?

Was AS able to keep an "2006" team together for next year, or did most of those girls move on to a different club? I had heard about some of them going together to Blues, but then heard it didn't happen? Also heard Strikers had a lot of movement with their coaching change. Seems like a lot of really good players could be with new teams...if so, guessing the rich got richer (Legends, SD Surf, Beach, Albion?)? Doesn't look like a very strong egsl spring league for the 2006 group, so seeing the movement might need to wait until summer.

Slammers, I was shooting for anonymity but I guess I'll just have to be a little more PC with my comments . I'm sure that was a tough game for your girls with all the drama surrounding it.

Does anyone have an idea what the plan/schedule is for the 06 ODP team? I assume something happens between now and March and then there are tryouts again? Thank you.

All the girls who were at the camp in July are invited back at the end of December in Fullerton, along with 20 or so new girls (if I remember correctly). From this group the team will be chosen and they will play in Arizona in the Spring. Again, if memory serves me correctly.

Are they going to bring back the girls that made it to the top 36 at tryouts? Or is it a entirely new group?

Bringing back the final 24 that were in Ojai plus another 20 or so. I would imagine these could be anyone, including girls that were in the 36 but not in the last 24. Again, to the best of my knowledge and recollection.

I have read a bunch of stuff on this forum, why do people think getting selected to ODP does not matter or is a joke? It seems like a nice acknowledgement/accomplishment for the kids and used to mean something. Is it sour grapes or just too political and I realize the landscape is so different today.....new to this in 2010's and have no idea....much different from when I grew up, you had district tryouts and created a team, went to a state tournament/tryout, and then a state team formed with alternates, goes to regional camp, and plays in a tournament/tryout and regional team and alternates are formed, and then to Nat'l camp tournament/tryout..... etc.

Given this was in the late 80's early 90's but at least the net seems wider (anybody can show-up for a district tryout) and the kids compete....seems better than Coach or DOC nominations....

At this age, it means very little. It's all coach/DOC selection.

It's a joke. ODP means nothing these days. It's a money maker for two people working for CalSouth. Back in the day, it was something. No more.

With the start of DA this last September on the girls side, ODP is no longer mostly the top players because DA players are not allowed to participate in ODP. I said mostly because there are a few great players who play ECNL so are able to play ODP. Also, for those not in DA it is still another opportunity to train with and play with players from out of your area.

This time around for this age group ODP had scouts at SC. I spoke with our coach and he did not give any rec's.

I have asked odp coaches and they said it's coach and doc recommendation. A scout comes and watches a little at state cup. But the list always includes girls that no longer play soccer, are in the wrong age group, or lists them as playing for clubs they no longer play for. It's a joke.
