Travel Requirements by League

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the away team's coach or academy director who requested to play just one game in AZ those times. Sometimes it's about fitting the trip around the coach's schedule.

No. It definitely didn't come from the away side. No one on our side was happy about it. It wasn't just one coach/team, all 4 older teams had to do it this year.

It also may be that Barca Academy couldn't play the weekend they were supposed to also play SC Del Sol (because Barca does a lot of extra travel to non-MLS Next stuff with their residency players) and the away team just decides to play SC Del Sol and defer the Barca game to another solo weekend rather than skip a weekend altogether.
The first part of this may be true, but we would have gladly rescheduled to come only once. We're a small club and the travel is hard on everyone. They also scheduled Santa Barbra and Ventura away games on different weekends. Usually they double them up too...

Sounds like it was Barca then. Given that they control Casa Grande (SC Del Sol just rents from them), they could have just dictated the whole thing. To be fair, Barca sometimes comes to LA without a travel partner too. I expect they are the ones who like it that way because they would prefer not to play two games in a weekend.

Bottom line, though, is that MLS Next wouldn't have been the one to schedule it this way.

Crazy the amount of travel there seems to be compounded more as the years went by. Comparing travel itineries for a bunch of youngsters is what things have come to?

Localized play or at least same county for league games was the norm with tournament being the travel to events. 1 big tournament in the summer maybe you traveled farther across counties.

As the leagues became more fictitious with the elite, academy, development this and that travel demands went up.

Our youngest was basically on the road full time for 3+years straight and never had any home games besides high school after u15. He would train locally but all his games where at travel tournaments, complexes, stadiums, and event sites outside our home area. The group sites for the leagues games was only good if your already lived in that county. 60+ games one season all on the road, good thing he had transportation help and drove @16.

For Girls ECNL/ECRL generally looking at over the course of a season one away trip to AZ, one away trip to Vegas, showcase in SD and possible out of state travel for playoffs (last year in Seattle, this year in SD) or additional showcases (depending on age).
