Advantage?

Situation a few weeks ago for a youngers game where headers are not allowed. Ball was in the air and Team A defender made an intentional intent to head ball outside of box. Ball skipped off top of head and Team B collected ball and scored. Referee did not blow the whistle at time of header nor did he motion advantage.

Team A coach complains after goal and CR walks over to ref tent to confer with other refs. Ref walks back and calls back goal and awards kick at spot of header.

Should ref allowed goal to stand? Or was it proper to call goal back?

It is proper to call goal back and get it right as long as the next play had not began and it was still a dead ball after initial goal was scored. Maybe he was unsure with how to apply the rules in this situation and had a chance to get it right . Hopefully it didn’t affect the outcome too much.

If the referee saw it hit the player’s head than play should have been stopped and no goal. During referee training we have been told there is no advantage for intentional or unintentional headers. Of course, the referee could have claimed he never saw the ball hit the head. Sounds like this referee stayed neutral and had integrity.

Great job by the referee to get the call right by asking. At this age, everyone has a lot to learn: players, referees, coaches, and especially parents.
