Rich Man Advantage in Soccer

How was I "publicly shown to be wrong" because someone said so? Merely saying something doesn't make it true. Trump should've taught you that by now.
Hey, grampa is on your side of the wall Trump is going to build.
BTW,Being white and rich isn't a crime anymore, ever since Jan 20th 2017.

Extra training and coaching may make a difference in the ulitte stage but eventually talent wins out. Money can't buy ability. It can buy access though. The kids of famous athletes almost never reach anywhere close to the same level of success despite having the genes and exposure at young ages like Michael Jordan's kids.
That was cold....poor MJ's kids.

Oh so now you can tell a person's nationality based solely on the city from a team list. You are more brilliant than I thought.
Since I was at the tournament for two days, saw a diverse group of kids playing, was then called out by you, I thought seeing the diversity of where the teams were from might help you a bit. It was a very large tournament with many different cities included in it, thus getting a large cross section of kids. You either don't believe certain races can play soccer thus can't believe they were at the tournament, or you just like to argue.

Can't edit the previous comment so I'll apologise about my last comment as I didn't intend it to sound insulting. There were over 1000 kids at the tournament, with it being AYSO, many probably fall into the category of not spending a lot of money on soccer. I believe soccer is a sport for the masses that doesn't require huge expenditures on equipment or fields. Kids play in the street, blacktop, dirt fields, grass fields, learning the game and getting better by playing.

Thanks for the clarification. I agree with you.

The game is certainly more restricted to the wealthy in the US than the rest of the world, but as ever, there's ways around it with enough dedication and talent.

What youth sports haven't become more expensive and time-consuming in the last 5-10 years? I'm sure other traditionally accessible sports (basketball, baseball) have similar situations with higher costs and private training.

All of you should be happy that your daughter didn't choose dance. My older one went that route, has been dancing since age 7, and it costs at least twice as much as an expensive club soccer team. She is now in High School, probably the best dancer on the High School Dance team, still dances at a competition studio, but has almost zero chance of getting even a partial scholarship to any college. The silver lining in this is she is creative and loves what she does, stays busy and away from boys :D, and stays focused on school, and always has a smile on her face. :)

Then it is priceless.

For example, the day my kid pulled a spam musubi out of her soccer bag to eat between games she was met with a chorus of "ugh, what is that?!?"
Kids can be jerks about many things without knowing it. My son (white, blue eyes) would have asked if she had any extra. Damn, no I'm craving musubi! I often joke about the sea of blond pony tails (of which DD is one). Best of luck to your player!

I agree, my parents also worked the extra overtime hours and yes our kids are 3rd/4th generation asian families. It's all part of assimilating into the US culture where sports is highly valued. Then again, our kids are 3rd generation and many Asian families are still 1st or 2nd generation in this country. They still don't value organized sports like we have for our kids. Thus, the reason not as many Asians playing organized sports and not because we can't afford it.
A little bit off topic, but my 10 year old daughter was in a volleyball tournament this weekend. I would say about 50% of the girls playing were Asian. Their parents were very into the game and cheering a lot from the sidelines.

That's funny, a whole team of liberos!

Soooo glad DD picked soccer over volleyball. The game itself is great, but the all day tournaments where you never know when your kid will play and being in a cramped gym with crappy sight lines makes spectating not much fun.
