HS Summer and Fall

What's up with local high schools holding soccer practice pretty much year round?

HS players aren't allowed to go near their club from November - February.
But you have high schools that run a summer camp, summer league, "practice" in August (for a November season), Tryouts, and Spring "voluntary" pick up games.

All sports in local High Schools (not only soccer) run Summer programs and it has been for a long time. Nobody forcing anyone to attend those programs. Players are free to come and tryout for a team in November (in case of Soccer).

We have girls from 4 or 5 different HS on our team. Same school district. It's interesting how each school runs things very different.

In the Southern Section school principals are required to declare a "summer dead period" of 3 consecutive weeks during which no school sports activities other than weight lifting programs are allowed. The dead period must fall sometime between the end of school or end of May, whichever is earlier, and the last Monday in August.

Coaches at my oldest's HS know club is where kids learn how to play. They dont run the kids in a league. Just do a camp and tryouts are in Mid-August. Returning players have an extended camp but it 3x a week, not 5. Soccer is just PE for conditioning - and what kids do depends on individual shape. Already in Club season, not going to kill a kid to condition for Winter when they already training. Some kids need added help, but can be addressed with an individual program.

Incorrect. This is being proposed right now but it's not yet implemented.

There's no indication that Soccer Rule 2508.3 in the CIFSS 2018-19 Blue Book posted at https://cifss.org/resources/blue-book/199/ is not in effect. It's also in the CIFSS Blue Book at least as far back as the 2011-12 edition. What's the basis for your claim?
That dead period is at the end of school year. So as long as the Principal says "starts June 1", just wait 3 weeks. I do see kids already doing camps week after school ends and then games the week after - all done before the 22nd of June so they couldnt be dead for 3weeks starting on the 1st. For example Aliso Viejo HS. This is how most schools in summer leagues operate. Dont know if they are in compliance or go dead in July. If they go dead in mid/latee July through Mid/Late August (before last Monday in August) they would be compliant. I'm fairly sure schools are going dead mid July-Early August since most schools around my area do tryouts Mid to Late August and compete in the Summer League at Capo that ends Mid July.

Tryouts in August? So what do they do until November after tryouts in August? What about players who play a HS fall sport? My dd always misses tryouts even in November b/c she is not done with her fall sport. Just curious how it works with tryouts in August.

Our school holds tryouts the 1st week of school. Which is late August. For a November season.
Almost as silly as clubs having tryouts in December when State Cup is in February.

They have a PE period for those not playing other sports. Weightlifting, some group training and some individualized plans for those who arent in the best condition.

HS Coaches do a variety of things. In our area one school is running 2-3 hour practices 4-5 days a week since school started in August. Another school does nothing until the season starts in late October early November. It varies between that for the others. Suffice it to say many club players are totally exhausted and burned out from programs that are training daily while they have club training 2-3 x week and games on the weekend. And to say HS coaches give leeway to players on club teams is wishful thinking. Many threaten or remove placement on the HS team if they don’t attend HS practices. So they skip club training instead. As the saying goes... it is what it is.

But the coaches, AD's and idiots at CIF are worried about college ID camps causing burnout.

Our HS team started making kids run like a track team. To the point where kids started skipping club practices. Apparently to get them into shape. If kids aren’t in shape for club season at this point they probably shouldn’t be playing soccer. Some coaches burning kids out because they either don’t know better or just don’t give an F. In either case I understand why a lot of coaches and parents keep kids off the HS team or have them play other sports.

It must really be up to each coach and what they want to do.

My son's HS coach started HS training 3 days a week at the beginning of Sept and will go to 5 days in October. He is ok with club players missing up until November. He's not a club coach also.

My son's club coach has all kinds of restrictions and guidelines on them, part of which is a daily stretching and running routine, which is not excused even if you are already training at HS. He has also threatened the boys that if they can't keep it together and perform at training and games, he will ban them from playing HS soccer. He is not an HS coach. This is not a DA team either.

My daughter's HS coach is starting practice in October and is not excusing club players. She does not coach club soccer.

My daughter's club coach gives the girls that come from HS soccer to club training on the same day a little break in skipping the warmups and runs, but that's about it. He also coaches an HS team.

Two different HS coaches at the same school and they each do their own thing.

There doesn't seem to be any guidelines to follow.
